New ‘Good Omens’ Trailer Shows Off Plenty Of Fan Favorite Characters

There’s a new Good Omens trailer out, and it is packed full of fan favorite characters: not just Crowley and Aziraphale but the Horsemen, The Them, Anathema Device, Newton Pulsifer, and Dog. (We’re still waiting to see Benedict Cumberbatch as Lucifer, though.)

First of all, in case you haven’t seen it, here’s the new Good Omens trailer.

There’s still a focus on the friendship between Aziraphale and Crowley. That’s great. David Tennant as Crowley and Michael Sheen as Aziraphale are doing a strong job. Although some fans hoped for more diversity in those central roles, they’re both very talented actors and it seems like they’re holding to the right sort of banter book fans will expect.

Be honest. Was this one of your first literary ships like it was for us?

We do get a wider view of events in the new Good Omens trailer than we had in the previous one. Good Omens as a book has a constantly switching point of view. It’s something which makes it much better suited to a miniseries than a movie, so it’s great to see that we get six episodes for it to play out.

It’s also FULL OF CHARACTERS. There are so many fun, rounded characters in the book and we see those come to life in this trailer. Anathema Device, the witch working off a hereditary book of prophecy. Newton Pulsifer, the not-terribly-committed Witchfinder who finds a witch anyway. The Horsemen, looking stylish (but I’m reserving judgement until I see more dialogue from them).

Plus, Adam and The Them. What kids reading Good Omens didn’t see themselves and their friend group in this kid gang led by the (unknowing) Antichrist? I wish there were more, but I know from reading the book that putting The Them too much in the trailer would give a lot away.

The downsides- first, as a TV series the special effects aren’t going to be film class. That’s fine, it’s not distracting at least and the acting is great so far.

Also…with so many characters showing up in this new Good Omens trailer we’re still not seeing a ton of diversity. There was a little more introduced into the Horseman and The Them (also maybe one background angel functionary?).  Also the IMDB page for the series has more as well, so let’s hope this is a trick of the trailer.

Despite that, it still looks like it will be a series worthy of its creators. We’re looking forward to reviewing it when it hits Amazon Prime on May 31st, so keep your eyes here for updates!
