OFMD Renewal Campaign Updates: Send Bottles, Raise Money for Charity

our flag means death renewal and fan campaigns

It’s been six weeks since Our Flag Means Death concluded and we still don’t have a renewal. The fan campaign side of things has taken off, though, and there are two groups doing awesome things right now.

There’s a persistent rumor that Our Flag Means Death renewal news will come some time after May 18th. This rumor spawned from a comment of a supposed insider at HBO Max who says important post-merger decisions will be announced on that day. I’ve been unable to independently verify the authenticity of these rumors, but fandom has taken it as fact. If any verifiable HBO insiders happen to know more, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me!

Since these renewal rumors have been so persistent, many fans are holding off on any larger-scale campaigns until after that date. However, that hasn’t stopped some of us from starting our own renewal initiatives and fandom campaigns, though.  I’d like to highlight two that were launched over the weekend that may be of interest to you.

Renewal Campaign: Bottles Ahoy!

Before getting into this one, I just want to put a disclaimer here: I’m part of the group organizing this renewal campaign. I may be biased when I say it’s pretty awesome. But trust me, it is awesome.

Bottles Ahoy! is an extension of the bottle campaign I’ve mentioned in a previous post, only we’ve decided we’ll go ahead and send bottles on your behalf. All you have to do is fill out the form on the website and we’ll print, roll, bottle, and mail your messages. We plan on putting multiple messages per bottle, and will definitely be sending numerous bottles at this point as we’ve exceeded 100 messages already.

If you want to send your own bottle, we’ve also set up an easy set of links for you to do just that. Get creative! Have fun! And let’s renew as a crew!

Charity Fundraiser: SAGE The Sea

The second campaign is brought to you by the same people that did the renewal trending event last week, OFMD Crew, which I’ve talked about previously. This time they are doing a charity fundraiser.

The fundraiser will begin on June 11th and benefit SAGE, an LGBTQ+ charity organization that supports LGBTQ+ elders. It’s a pretty thematic charity to pick considering the show is centered around two middle-aged men finding love with each other for the first time.

More details about the event will be posted on their Twitter account. It’s also highly recommended that you fill out their interest check form

The cool part of this fundraiser is that, since its purpose is to raise funds for a charity, it’s going to happen whether the show is renewed or not. OFMD Crew is still working on renewal initiatives, too, though. Their next one is on May 14th. They plan on doing another Tweet storm and the tag will be announced on their Twitter account.

Other Renewal Events

We do have other efforts planned beyond the Magical May 18th date. We’ve put several interest checks out and are narrowing in on the places where people have shown enthusiastic interests in something larger. While we certainly hope we won’t need to go big at all, keep an eye out for news. We’ve got things lined up and ready to go. If you have ideas, feel free to leave them in the comments!
