Oscar Isaac Cast In ‘Annihilation’

The Internet’s boyfriend Oscar Isaac has been cast in a film called Annihilation, reuniting him with Ex Machina‘s direct Alex Garland.

Oscar Isaac has had a spike in popularity since he starred as Resistance pilot Poe Dameron in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  Isaac has had a pretty stellar career before he crash landed on Jakuu and started flirting with ex-Stormtrooper Finn.  The year 2015 also saw him in his stand out performance in Ex Machina, which earned him numerous awards and accolades.  Annihilation will bring these two critically acclaimed artists back together again in this science fiction mystery set to be released in 2017.

This isn’t the only exciting part of the project, though.  Natalie Portman has also been cast as Isaac’s character’s wife.  Yes, another Star Wars alum! While Portman’s part in the prequels is often panned because of how underwhelming the films were as a whole, you can’t deny that she’s a stellar actress.  She’s won two Academy Awards, three Golden Globes, and a hell of a lot more.  Her character is a biologist, and if you know anything about me, you know that women in STEM fields is a super important topic.

The film will be based off the first book in a series called the “Southern Reach” trilogy and, judging by an analysis by The Mary Sue, his role could be relatively minor.  But hey, that’s fine.  Judging by their take on the potential adaptation, the book flips some typical gender tropes around and places Isaac’s character as the person who has mysteriously disappeared.  Even without Isaac’s involvement, the premise sounds promising and full of potential for some awesome female protagonist badassery.

So basically we have an award winning director, award winning Internet boyfriend Oscar Isaac, award winning actress Natalie Portman, and a popular book trilogy with a primarily female cast all mixed together?  Are you kidding me?  What have we done to deserve such a treat?
