Oz Comic-Con Sydney 2016: Charlie and Max Carver, Devon Murray, and Timothy Omundson

It might not be the biggest convention but there’s still a lot to see at Oz Comic-Con Sydney. I was pressed for this year but I did manage to see three panels:  Charlie and Max Carver, Devon Murray, and Timothy Omundson.

Charlie and Max Carver (Teen Wolf, The Leftovers) had the hard task of being first up on Stage 1, the biggest stage at the Oz Comic-Con Sydney. 10am is pretty early for a Saturday morning, but they were only a couple of minutes late, which I thought was fairly impressive. Now Charlie and Max being from a con-heavy fandom like Teen Wolf are seasoned panelists at this point so they do what they do and they do it well. They riff off each other well and the audience seemed to love them, even at 10am in the morning. There weren’t any exciting spoilers and tidbits, but it was a good way to start the convention.

Devon Murray (Harry Potter) was an absolute delight. Self confessed as socially awkward, he spent the first five minutes standing next to the seat he was supposed to sit in. He talked about Harry Potter of course, which is always exciting. As a fan it was honestly so lovely to be seated next to a couple of new very young Harry Potter fans who asked some very enthusiastic questions – I’m always happy to meet new Harry Potter fans. Devon did say that he really liked The Cursed Child but we won’t hold that against him (I’m joking, despite the problems I’m still a fan). The best part was definitely when he jumped into the audience to continue a discussion about horses with a fan.

Timothy Omundson (Psych, Galavant) is just great, isn’t he? The first thing you need to know about this panel is that apparently there are a lot more people upset about Galavant’s cancellation than I thought. That’s great because Galavant was amazing and I am still sad about it, and so is Timothy Omundson. He didn’t have anything to say about the potential stage version of the show but he did say he would love to be involved if that’s a thing. Then he fangirled about Mark Hamill (who’s a big fan of Galavant) for about 20 minutes, which is totally completely understandable. Honestly the most relatable thing I’ve seen happen in a panel.

That was all for my 2016 Oz Comic-Con Sydney panel experience, I’m disappointed I didn’t get to see many of the smaller panels, which looked really fun as I rushed past them. Next year I will definitely make the effort for sure.
