What Is Your Patronus? Find Out on Pottermore (Finally)

pottermore patronus quote

Witches and wizards, it has finally arrived. The new and improved (?) Pottermore has at last introduced a test to determine what form your Patronus would take!

Along with the personality quizzes that determine your Hogwarts (and Ilvermorny) house and your wand, today Pottermore unveiled the test that will reveal what corporeal form your Patronus would take. They have been promising that to us for quite a while now, and that was one of the things on my wish list when the last few chapters were released on the old Pottermore site.

You are taken to a forest where you are told to pick your happiest memory and given choices between several words. Go with your first instinct, and choose quickly, because the questions are timed. The words are simple (my first choice was between “shine”, “glitter”, and “glow”) and seemingly innocuous, but they are all presumably related to happy things. Remember, it is only by concentrating on your happiest memory and saying Expecto Patronum that you are able to produce a corporeal Patronus. I’m not sure how I feel about the choices – I suspect you were supposed to relate them to your happy memory, but I kind of forgot about that and just went with my gut when I chose my answers.

From what I can tell from poking around, not everyone gets the same questions, and obviously which answers you choose will produce entirely different results. There seem to be quite a lot of different creatures, ranging from the supernatural (someone on Reddit got a Thestral) to the more common (mine is a Brown Bear). There are also different breeds – there seem to be multiple kinds of dogs and cats.

It should be noted that you can only take the test once per account.

The animation is spectacular (after each choice, you zoom to a different part of the forest) and the music really adds to the feel of the whole experience, but I’m not quite sure how I feel about the test in general. It’s not what I was expecting (though, truth be told, I’m not sure exactly what I was expecting), and I did absolutely not anticipate my result. But I’m not entirely unhappy with the experience, and now I feel like just that much more of a wizard now that I know.

Find your Patronus here. (Please note that there seems to be some difficulty in certain browsers. I had no issues with Chrome.) You can also read more about the Patronus Charm in general. I am a little disappointed that there isn’t more explanation about your particular Patronus, but I guess since there are so many results that it was just too much of an undertaking.

Have you taken the test? What was your result?
