Peacock Releases Teaser for “Twisted Metal” Series

Peacock has dropped the teaser for its upcoming live-action comedy series Twisted Metal, starring Anthony Mackie and based on the video game series of the same name.

The Twisted Metal series was first released in 1995 for PlayStation and PC, and centers around a demolition derby that emphasizes the use of weapons like ballistic projectiles, mines, machine guns, and others. Each game revolved around the titular Twisted Metal vehicular combat tournament, though individual games had their own storylines.

TWISTED METAL, a half-hour live-action TV series based on the classic PlayStation game series, is a high-octane action comedy, based on an original take by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and written by Michael Jonathan Smith, about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a badass axe-wielding car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.

Set in the Divided States of America, the first season of Twisted Metal consists of ten 30-minute episodes. Aside from Anthony Mackie, who plays the charismatic John Doe, the series stars Stephanie Beatriz as Quiet, Thomas Haden Church as Agent Stone, and Samoa Joe as Sweet Tooth (voiced by Will Arnett).

“Yes, TWISTED METAL has the cars, it has the weapons, and it has the battles,” said showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai), who also is a the writer and executive producer. “But what it also has are people. I know you will fall in love with these characters and what drives them, no pun intended (okay, maybe a little intended).”

“This is a bonkers show about insiders and outsiders, and how our own special apocalypse has divided and isolated us more than ever,” added Smith. “But there’s hope. You can find your people and your community. You may just have to get past a terrifying clown driving a well-armed ice cream truck to find them. ”

From Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions and Universal Television, Twisted Metal premieres July 27 exclusively on Peacock.
