Breaking Glass Pictures has released the queer dark comedy Waking Up Dead, by award-winning writer and director Terracino.

I talked about Waking Up Dead back in May 2020. So, it is great to see the film all finished and being released into the world, especially when shooting took place during the height of the global panini.

Starring Gabriel Sousa, Judy Geeson, and Traci Lords the film is currently available on DVD, VOD, digital platforms (including Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Vudu, etc.), and local cable and satellite providers.

Waking Up Dead held its World Premiere at Cinema Diverse/Palm Springs LGBTQ Film Festival where it was able to win a bunch of awards including Festival Favorite and Director’s Choice. It then went on to play at the Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.

The film has been described as an “uncomfortable comedy” that features themes of “regret, remorse, and wishing you could live your life all over again.” I mean, I think of all of us have kind of been there, right?

The plot focuses on 35-year-old hard-partying, self-absorbed Danny Maldonado (Gabriel Sousa). Danny was once a promising Hollywood actor, but his life and career aren’t going well. However, a shot at redemption arrives when he’s called to audition for a lead role in Hollywood’s hottest new pilot.

Judy Geeson plays Lila, a former actress turned real estate agent who senses that Danny’s spinning out of control and tries to intervene. This is Geeson’s first major screen role in years.

Traci Lords plays Danny’s caustic grade-B agent Phyllis who “drops by to explain to Danny just why there are so many a**holes in the world”.

There’s also Eddy (Caio Ara), Danny’s long-suffering ex-boyfriend. Danny’s sister Sabrina is being played by Angelic Zambrana. Sabrina is desperate to get Danny to reconnect with their dying mother. Patricia McKenzie plays Raven, who has been described as a former nightlife party girl turned Instagram self-help guru.

Here’s the trailer!

Waking Up Dead has been written and directed by Terracino (Elliot Loves). The film has been produced by Jupiter J. Makins, Patricia Mckenzie, Joe Bohn, Emmi Grullon, Rich Wolff, and Terracino.

  1. Why are the girls pushed to the two corners in the right and the left of the cover like an afterthought?
