“Resident Evil 3” Remake Coming April 2020 With “Project Resistance”

We finally have a release date as well as a new trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil 3 remake. Come April 3, 2020, fans across the world will be able to play as the iconic Jill Valentine as she tries to make it out alive from the zombie-infested Raccoon City.

When Capcom decided to release the very well-received Resident Evil 2 remake in January of this year, fans immediately hoped for Resident 3 to get a remake next. It made sense for the fandom to think so. Since both stories took place in Raccoon City, the developers had done most of the work already when preparing RE 2. While several fans were adamant about a RE 3 remake being inevitable, many of us weren’t expecting it to come out so soon.

What’s more surprising is that the remake will reportedly act as the Campaign Mode for the RE series new title called Project Resistance (which I’ll get to in a bit).

Now, I didn’t really enjoy playing the RE 2 remake. I continue to love replaying the original. However, the remake, in my opinion, ended up forcing tension and horror. And I’m not a fan of being forced to feel a certain way while playing a game.

Because I’m also a fan of the original RE 3, I hope I’ll enjoy the remake. With the upcoming title, similar to the original, I expect to be hunted by Nemesis. However, being continuously hunted (for really no reason) by Mr. X in the RE 2 remake is what made me grow frustrated with the gameplay.

Anyway, do watch the announcement trailer for the Resident Evil 3 remake. It was shared during Sony’s State of Play. The character designs for Jill Valentine and Carols Oliveira look great!

I also like that Jill is wearing more functional clothes and not the skirt we saw her wear in the original.

The game will be available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam on April 3, 2020.

As for Project Resistance, I wasn’t expecting it to be bundled up with RE 3. Capcom really wants people to play that multiplayer game, don’t they?

In Project Resistance, a group of four human survivors has to avoid getting killed by the Mastermind (controlled by the fifth player). The entire thing is very Dead by Daylight. So, I’m not really sure how it will be received by the gaming community.

You can go ahead and pre-order Resident Evil 3 right now. Pre-ordering will give you access to the Classic Costume Pack for Jill and Carlos. You can also purchase the Standard Edition or go for the North America exclusive Collector’s Edition from GameStop.

The Collector’s Edition will cost you a whopping $179.99. It will include a physical copy of the game, the digital soundtrack, an art book, a reversible poster with a map of Raccoon City, and a statue of Jill Valentine. Everything will come packaged in an item box inspired by the in-game design.

I do hope Capcom continues with remaking the older Resident Evil titles and reach out to more players. With Resident Evil 3 coming out next year, fingers crossed, the next remake ends up being Resident Evil: Code Veronica.

I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed playing RE: Code Veronica and seeing Claire Redfield doing whatever’s possible to survive an infected island during her search to find her (queer) brother Chris Redfield.

Also, while Capcom is in the mood to do remakes, why not show some love to Dino Crisis? Come on, Capcom! Give us a fun thriller with dangerous dinosaurs and a red-haired heroine.

Which remake would you like to see?
