Free! Road to the World Now Has a Trailer and Visual

Road to the World Free

Relive the drama and reunions of the third season of Free! with the new compilation film Free! Road to the World, which will open in Japan this summer. A teaser trailer and new key visual were released last week.

I’m a little behind on this news and I’m sorry about that. Blame it on the madness and hype surrounding Avengers: Endgame and the Battle of Winterfell on Game of Thrones, as these came out last week and normally I would have been all over it. No matter, here we are! We learned in January that we were getting two new films in the Free! franchise, which was brought back for a third season last summer. At the time, we didn’t have a title or any information other than a release date. But now we know that Free! ~Road to the World~ Yume (Dream) will premiere on July 5.

Road to the World, like most anime compilation films, is a rebuilt, condensed version of the third season, Dive to the Future. It will feature highlights from the season’s twelve episodes, which saw old friends being reunited and new rivalries being kindled as Haru, Rin, Asahi, Ikuya, and others began their quest to be the best in Japan. The final episode of the season featured a presumably heart-pounding race (I say presumably because they predictably did not show it to us) between Haru and Rin at the All-Japan qualifying meet. The new film will also feature a brand new episode.

The trailer starts with the teasing phrase “Road to 2020”, which refers to both this film and the all-new, as yet untitled film that will release next summer just in time for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

The official site for the film, which has theater and ticket information, is now open. Tickets are starting to become available, and you can choose various packages, which come with bonus swag!
