Fans of the Rogue Legacy game series can look forward to Rogue Legacy 2 officially launching on PC and Xbox One, X|S on April 28, 2022. Cellar Door Games have also released a new animated cinematic alongside the release of Rogue Legacy for FREE on the Epic Games store!

For those who might not know, having launched into Early Access back in August 2020, Rogue Legacy 2 is ready to offer fans a brand new art style, all-new weaponry, abilities, and classes. There is also fresh biome generation to provide plays with greater strategic choice.

According to Cellar Door Games, the goal for Rogue Legacy 2 was to basically make “Rogue Legacy 3” because the team didn’t want to settle for just more. The game had to stay true to the original while being able to stand on its own. The title took almost four years of development.

As far as the game mechanics are concerned, Rogue Legacy 2 introduced Heirlooms to permanently give heroes new abilities. There’s also a better risk vs reward mechanic and better accessibility.

With the April 28, 2022, debut date nearing, players can go right now (until the release date) to purchase Rogue Legacy 2 on Steam and Epic as an Early Access title. As of writing this, the indie title will cost you $8.49 USD.

And for those who might not be familiar with the series, a copy of Rogue Legacy can be claimed FOR FREE from the Epic Games Store between April 7 – 14th!

Here’s the trailer!

I liked how the trailer showed the main character sharing a spiritual link with past heroes and being able to learn from their challenges to become better at fighting a powerful enemy.

The Key Features include:

  • Every Adventure is Unique: New monsters, new traps, and new layouts will be generated every time a player enters the Kingdom. The key to winning in this fictional world is improvisation, not memorization.
  • Wildly New Classes: Your gameplay changes drastically due to the Class you select. Rangers can hide atop Ivy Canopies and rain poisoned arrows at foes. Dragon Lancers can fly across the sky and attack foes at massive speed. Bards can sing and dance through enemies. There are 15 distinct Classes for you to choose from. The trailer above offers an idea of the combat style featured in certain Classes.
  • Brand New Style: The visuals feature 2.5D stylings, with 3D characters against hand-drawn backdrops. I do like the cartoony graphics and how they still link back to the original.
  • Revamped Biome Generation: Each biome is able to adopt different “build strategies” to create completely unique yet still-randomly-generated regions for players.
  • True Metroidvania: If you prove your worth to obtain them, Heirlooms are special items to permanently give your heroes new abilities and reveal secrets of the world you find yourself in.
  • Traits 2.0: Gold modifiers have been added to entice players to take on new challenges and hopefully win bigger awards.
  • Relics and Resolve: You have the ability to pick up Relics, which are unique items that change how your run is played. However, you must be careful because the more Relics you obtain the more your resolve is shaken. Take note; all Relics are lost if the hero perishes.
  • Improved Accessibility: House Rules have been introduced. You can toggle contact damage, tweak global damage and health, and even give yourself flight for difficult platform sections.
  • A Rich Narrative: The story has expanded from the Rogue Legacy days. Beating the game once isn’t the end. There’s a lot to uncover and the ability to build relationships with the characters you encounter along the way. New Game+ is an option and you get to decide if you want the game to become tougher.
  • More of Everything: Rogue Legacy 2 has more traits, weapons, spells, equipment, rooms, story, secrets… just more of everything!
