While the first-ever UK edition of RuPaul’s Drag Race is yet to conclude, BBC has already gone ahead and renewed it for a second season. I’m here for more British Queens!

Of course, I have been keeping up with RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season One and I’m very glad this series will continue. The world needs more shows that highlight different kinds of Drag Culture. And yes, I do understand that RuPaul’s take on Drag Culture through his Drag Race franchise has been said to be targeted at straight audience members.

But you know what? At least, we have something like this being shown on TV screens around the world. It’s also great that the entire queer franchise is a huge success. So, points to RuPaul for that.

According to reports, the first season plays on the BBC’s youth-skewed online channel, BBC Three, and its on-demand service, iPlayer. It has registered 6.5 million requests thus far.

BBC Three have opened applications to find another set of sickening queens to compete in the Olympics of drag,” said the broadcaster.

I want to thank the BBC and all our fans for their overwhelming support of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race U.K,” said RuPaul. “This season’s queens proved that Britain’s Got Charisma Uniqueness Nerve and Talent and I want to see more! Here’s to another season of love, laughter, and light.”

Kate Phillips, the BBC’s controller for entertainment commissioning, shared, “The response to the current U.K. series has been nothing short of dragulous. Our viewers have really taken the show and the amazing queens to their hearts.”

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season One is produced by World of Wonder. It was commissioned by Phillips and Fiona Campbell, controller of BBC Three.

In the show’s recently aired episode 5, the six remaining queens gave impressive vocal performances. I’m looking forward to seeing who is crowned the winner of the first season.
