Second Haikyuu Compilation Film Gets Additional Footage

A couple of weeks ago we got information and art about the first Haikyuu compilation film, which focuses on the second season match between Karasuno and Aobajōsai. This week, we’ve been blessed with the same for the second compilation film, which centers around the championship game between Karasuno and Shiratorizawa.

The 29th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump revealed the art for Haikyu!! Concept no Tatakai (Battle of Concepts), which arrives in theaters in Japan September 29. The first Haikyuu compilation film opens September 15; each movie will have a limited two-week run.

The magazine also revealed what bonus footage the film will include: two scenes from the manga that fans were disappointed did not make it into season 3. The first is a scene where Shiratorizawa captain Ushijima addresses the younger team members; the second is an additional flashback of Tsukishima’s time at the Tokyo training camp that heavily features Nekoma’s Kuroo.

In other news, it looks as though neither film will get new theme songs. The first film will use SPYAIR’s “I’m a Believer”, which was the first opening for season 2. The second film will use the third season’s opening, “Hikariare” by Burnout Syndromes.

We’ve still got no news about season 4, and as I’ve said before, I don’t expect we’ll get a new season this year. I think the compilation films are a good sign, and a clever way to bridge the gap seasons. It isn’t a new season, but each film will have new scenes, so we’re kind of getting new material. Also, it will be faster to watch the films to prepare for season 4 rather than bingeing entire seasons. (Who am I kidding, I will still binge entire seasons. It’s kind of embarrassing how many times I’ve watched this show.)
