If you’re in the mood to play an indie game that wants you to figure out how to save yourself while stuck inside a sinking vessel, well, Shipwreck Escape might be perfect for you.

Raccoons Studio recently made their first game Shipwreck Escape available on Steam. In this 2.5D indie game offering, you get to control two characters as they try and survive a skinking ship by solving a number of puzzles. My anxiety is acting up just thinking about it.

I’m not the biggest fan of games that have a “timer” in them. In this particular instance, the timer is the increasing level of water entering the ship. However, I did find the entire premise quite interesting. So, I thought I should let you know about this title just in case you wanted to give it a go.

As far as the story is concerned, the catastrophe occurs when a cruise ship is sailing from Athens to Dubai. The main character is a croupier in the ship’s casino. Judging by the trailer, he quickly finds himself stuck in an extremely unfortunate situation where he doesn’t only has to think about his life, but also the wellbeing of others.

Yes, that’s right. This game gives you the power to decide if you will save other people in the ship (who got into traps) or only think about saving your skin. The ending of the game will depend on the decisions you make.

Talking about the narrative aspect of this game, you can find out who’s responsible for the sinking ship. So, here’s to hoping the said person gets to face the proper consequences.

Here’s the trailer!

As shown in the trailer, the gameplay allows you to use another character to figure out certain puzzles. Will there be a moment in this game where you can decide if you want two survivors or if only of them will make it out alive? Hmmm.

The obstacles for you to find a workaround include fire, steam electrical hazards, and more. There are 20 handcrafted levels for you to go through (with increasing difficulty). The settings in the levels showcase the ship’s cabins, engine zones, casino, park, restaurants, and more.

Shipwreck Escape was made available on Steam on June 24, 2021. There’s a free demo you can check out. A “15% off” special promotion offer for this game will end on July 1, 2021.
