Get those flashlights out and step carefully..

Silent Hill, the horror/mystery video-game based franchise will make a comeback to comic stores and select digital apps this August, from IDW Publishing. This time, the setting and story will be based on the eighth installment of the game series Silent Hill: Downpour from Konami Entertainment. The comic will expand upon the story involving alternate realities and the origins of its antagonist, Anne Marie Cunningham, in Silent Hill Downpour: Anne’s Story.

Tom Waltz will write. His previous cred for the franchise includes co-writing the Silent Hill: Downpour game, and previous Silent Hill comics stories from IDW, Sinner’s Reward and Past Life. Doing the art and covers will be Tristan Jones (Ghostbusters, Hoax Hunters).

Here is a bit more tidbits from the recent IDW press release:

Anne Cunningham set out on a bloody quest for revenge. The mystery surrounding her journey to Silent Hill, and the terrors she faced upon her arrival will finally be revealed, giving readers an entirely new perspective on the acclaimed video game.

And more from Tom Waltz:

“This will be my fourth foray as a writer into the dark side streets and alleyways of everyone’s favorite haunted vacation town and I couldn’t be more excited,” said Waltz. “More so because we finally get to share Anne Marie Cunningham’s canonical backstory, a mystery only hinted at until now. In our new story we can finally present all her grim and dirty secrets to Silent Hill fans, old and new alike.”

Sounds like an interesting read for Silent Hill fans of the Downpour installment, and perhaps those open to some fresh supernatural sequential art horror. Silent Hill’s story and unsettling setting stands well on its own apart from the gaming aspects; for those looking for a good scare.
