Hit the Floor 4×1 Review: Slay

Hit the Floor Season 4 Episode 1 Review Slay

Fans returned to the world of basketball, dance, and murder with the premiere of Hit the Floor season 4 titled ‘Slay.’ Not only did James LaRosa introduce new characters he also had some of the established characters in very interesting places in their personal arcs.

I was provided a screener of ‘Slay’ for review. The opinions are my own.

I know some fans have been hesitant to return to the series after certain cast members were unable to appear. Cast changes present a unique (and sometimes tough) problem to showrunners as they try to course correct certain plot lines and yes, it doesn’t always work and the story goes off the rails.

The good news is that James LaRosa was able to do a lot with the established cast members for whom he was writing. ‘Slay’ showed viewers that even without Zude and Dersha, there are still a lot of stories to be told.

Now, LaRosa could have continued with both major ships offscreen, waiting for Taylour Paige and Adam Senn to return. But what good would that have done? They could possibly return if they want to down the line; perhaps in season 5. But for now, I am interested to see more of the story LaRosa has in store for us during the fourth season.

The fate of Dersha and Zude wasn’t dragged out. Derek filed for divorce after Ahsha got an abortion without telling him. As for Zude, Gideon rejected Jude’s marriage proposal. Of course, things would have been different if Paige and Senn were part of ‘Slay’ but behind-the-scenes TV business doesn’t always work the way you want it to.

It was amazing to see Jelena being a part of the premiere. She has grown a lot and her wanting to legally adopt Miguel was something I was happy to see. Kyle continued being an awesome character. With everyone else trying to end competitors with backstabbing, blackmail, and other means, seeing Kyle continuing to be so good-natured offers a breath of fresh air. She needs to be protected at all costs!

Coming to the new characters, I liked both London and Jamie. There seems to be a rivalry brewing between the two which makes no sense to me. Also, all of the negative energy is coming from Jamie. London just wants to get her life back on track and she doesn’t have time for such fights.

Noah has been introduced as a very energetic and talkative character. He is very different from the mellower Jude. The fandom has also come up with Nude as the ship name. Will their relationship work? Let’s see.

For me, the best new character has got to be Eve who happens to be Olivia and Chase’s daughter. You could tell she is out for blood the moment she appeared. I can’t wait to see her mess everyone up!

Some thoughts and questions:

  • Poor Pete! Why James, why? Did Eve kill him?
  • Look at Pax making money!
  • I’m looking forward to seeing how Lionel grows. Where is Oscar?
  • Does Eve want to kill everyone or is she okay with just destroying their lives?
  • Let’s see what the ratings are for the premiere.

What did you think of Hit the Floor this week? Did you enjoy ‘Slay’? Let us know.

    1. I am very excited to see what Eve has in store. Yeah, Noah does look like a very different love interest for Jude. Let’s see how it all works out for him ^^

  1. Didn’t like new season premiere…… Where is everyone?? What happened??? Left with too many questions…….. ?????

  2. I love this series, but without Ahsha, it feels like when The Hills lost Lauren and tried to sell us Kristin. Ahsha is our Lauren. We need the ‘good girl’ who occasionally screws up to balance out everyone else. The heart of the show seems to be gone. Not a fan yet of Nude (the amazing chemistry between Jude and Zero is going to be hard to duplicate), but willing to wait and see…I will say the besties sparks between Jude and Lionel is terrific, and needs to be played up…

  3. Will not watch without Dersha….do what’s needed to bring her back!

Those two girls Jamie and London looks stupid fighting for Derrick’ attention! Wish they didn’t bring him back without Asha….it seem very very boring to me now!

  4. The show has become very boring. It sucks and will never be the same without Asha and Jelena. Bring Dersha

  5. Noah comes from the Haves and Have Nots and I was surprised to see him on Hit The Floor. I don’t know how I feel about Teyana Taylor and the other new girl. I am really trying to hang in there with this show but I really miss the old crew. Aasha, Sloane, Raquel, Terrance and Pete (RIP). The only reason why I’ll keep watching is for Derek, I wonder why Aasha chose not to return. Did Eve murder Pete by putting something in his drink that made him crash his car? The camera kept panning to his shot glass.

  6. the series has become so boring, what is hit the floor without Dersha, its just sick n slow… You wasted money on producing such crap

  7. No Zude? No Hit the Floor. Both the Zude break-up and the Dersha break-up seemed so out of character and made Zero and Ahsha into “bad guys”. Should have ended with S3.
