Sleepy Hollow 2×4 Review: “Go Where I Send Thee…”

sh1

I love this show, I really do. Seeing Abbie and Ichabod interact every week is an absolute delight and I am genuinely intrigued to find out what absurd thing is going to happen next. But the monster-of-the-week format is getting a little stale. This episode was fun and I enjoyed watching it but it wasn’t anything special or memorable. It was just another episode and apart from Frank Irving’s decent into demon-hood there wasn’t really anything that made me desperate to keep watching.

sh2Indiana Ken Doll aka Nick Hawley (even his name is cliche) is the most boring thing this show has ever done. He’s just so ordinary. I mean, sure, they had to add new characters, and chances are he’s going to end up evil or dead because we’re running out of possible bad guys but so far he’s just a walking exposition encyclopaedia. And it was way too contrived and convenient that he turned up two weeks in a row especially considering his presence was completely unnecessary. Is he a romantic interest for Abbie or maybe Ichabod? Is he the next horseman? Is he really just annoying? Who cares? I sure don’t.

The addition of a new boring pointless white guy aside, the moral dilemma presented at the end of this episode was an interesting one. Particularly considering it concerned adopted children. It was great that it was reflected in the regular cast’s emotional journeys, particular Irving who is faced with the consequences of an impossible choice. I also LOVED that Abbie jumped in a saved the day at the end, because Ichabod might be the one with all the famous friends but we all know Abbie’s the real hero.

Highlight of the episode included Ichabod’s having what I assume is a cappuccino but an honourable mention has to go to mid-apocalypitic-demon-Irving during the flash forward/dream/possible hallucination sequence. Turns out I am very much into that; bring on the apocalypse already! The lowlight was the lack of Jenny. I am always sad when there is a lack of Jenny. But I guess it’s not like they needed a morally ambiguous antiques acquirer… oh wait.

Anyway, despite the fact that I find the procedural structure tiresome I’m still enjoying the hell out of Sleepy Hollow. What did you think? Do find Hawley as annoying as I do? Are you attracted to Frank Irving’s demonic future? Could Ichabod and Abbie be any more adorable? Let us know in the comments.
