Star Wars: The Lightsaber Collection is An Amazing Addition to the SWU!

lightsaber collection

Thanks to the Star Wars renaissance that we’ve been enjoying for some years now, we have been graced with so many new books that I, for one, haven’t even been able to keep up…but if there’s one that I’ll be taking time out of my busy schedule to peruse, it’s the upcoming Insight Editions release Star Wars: The Lightsaber Collection.

The Lightsaber Collection is a thorough visual compilation of many of the lightsabers we’ve seen not just in the Star Wars movies and animated series, but comics, video games, and novels as well. It’s the first official guide to what is arguably the most important weapon in the Star Wars universe, and based on what I’ve seen so far, it’s worth it for the gorgeous depictions of the sabers alone. And speaking of those depictions…

The Lightsaber Collection includes a spread on Leia’s lightsaber, which is newly revealed and, looking at the picture above, absolutely perfect. As you can see, each lightsaber featured in the book is paired with a description, and each description includes the tale of the weapon’s construction as well as additional anecdotes. (I for one am hoping to get more insight into Darth Maul’s double blade and Kylo Ren’s crossguard, not to mention the curved hilts and saberstaff combination that Asajj Ventress wielded.)

Both author Daniel Wallace and illustrator Ryan Valle have delved into the SWU before, with Wallace working on The Jedi Path and Star Wars: The New Essential Guide to Characters and Valle contributing art for Fantasy Flight Games’ Star Wars cards. It looks to me as if they chose the right people for the job of delving into the details of this aspect of the SWU.

Star Wars: The Lightsaber Collection is available for preorder prior to its October 20, 2020 release for $26.99 on Amazon.
