Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Sneak Peek During The Mandalorian

The Mandalorian - Rise of Skywalker

When we look at the schedule for The Mandalorian, we could tell something was funky the week that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker comes out; it’s airing on Wednesday instead of Friday. Now we know why.

The Mandalorian’s first episode aired the date Disney+ came out on November 12th, and then began a Friday release schedule beginning on November 15th. The second to last episode, however, has always been an outlier with a Wednesday release date on December 18th. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be released in theaters on the 20th, though many theaters will have early screenings on the evening of the 19th, so the general assumption is that the early air date was somehow connected to this.

Disney has now announced that there will be a special tie-in between that week’s episode and the film. Information about what this ‘tie-in’ or ‘sneak peek’ will entail seems rather vague at the moment. I’m unclear if it’s going to be a special clip from the film, or if something within the episode will actually tie into the film’s plot itself. As there are about 25-ish years between the show and the film, I’m guessing we’ll get footage instead of an in-show tie-in.

All we know about the seventh episode is a brief one-sentence description: “An old rival extends an invitation for The Mandalorian to make peace.”  It’s also directed by Deborah Chow, who directed the nearly universally praised third episode ‘Chapter 3: The Sin.’

While I feel that this ‘tie-in’ will likely be footage from the film either before or after the episode, I’d be perfectly happy with Chow having a hand in content that ties more directly into the films as well. She’s phenomenal.

The Mandalorian will return to its Friday release schedule for the finale on December 27th.  A second season has already been announced and is currently in pre-production.
