It is official! You can’t talk about Venom without mentioning Symbrock. If you have been able to, then allow yourself to take off your heteronormative glasses. You are missing out on what makes this superhero romantic-comedy amazing. Screen Junkies’ honest trailer for Venom gives the pairing the fame it deserves.

Is Venom a well-written film? No. Is it the best live-action adaptation of a comic book character? No. And you know what? It isn’t trying to be any of those things. It is a fun film based on a Marvel property and when it all comes down to it, that’s what matters. Also, it gave the world live-action Symbrock (Symbiote/Eddie Brock’s ship name), and a male lead who isn’t into toxic masculinity. So, all of its shortcomings can be overlooked.

Here’s the delightful Venom honest trailer from Screen Junkies!

But Venom’s not just an action movie. It’s also a love story, as Eddie is torn between his love of Michelle Williams’ terrible wig and the special guy inside of him, who’s ready to make the leap from ‘I’ to ‘we,'” is the best way to describe this film.

Venom has made more than $850 million at the worldwide box office against a reported production budget of approximately $115 million (which doesn’t include promotion). All hail Symbrock!

Sony also leaned into the ship while promoting the film’s home release. It will be interesting to see what the studio decides to do with the two lead characters in the sequel. If you have read the Venom comic books, you already know their relationship is far queerer than what was shown in the film. As I said, it will be interesting to see how Sony continues to develop Symbrock on the big screen. Backtracking will likely cause fan outrage.

If you still haven’t watched Venom, what are you doing? Do yourself a favor and open your eyes to Symbrock!

  1. Like most everyone I loved the movie Venom. I am actually glad that Spider-Man didn’t make an appearance. I hear a lot of people want a crossover with Spider-Man but I would actually prefer another movie without him to develop the characters of Eddie Brock and Venom. I would love them to look more into the backstory of Venom and his planet. With sequels (although I would love to see another movie) it opens the door for them to really mess things up. This is why in the next movie coming up I will do lots of research before seeing it. I do this with most movies but with something that was so special like this movie I just cannot risk them destroying it for me.
