Animal Kingdom 4×4 Review: Tank

Tank Animal Kingdom Season 4 Episode 4 review

This week’s episode of Animal Kingdom, titled ‘Tank’ (named after Pope and Julia’s lost cat), showed the Codys execute a successful heist. However, the tension between the characters continued to run high, and it’s only a matter of time before something bad happens.

I was provided a free screener of ‘Tank’ for review. The opinions are my own.

I’m going to begin by talking about Angela. I don’t trust her. I have this weird feeling she’s up to something. The way she tried to get closer to Pope by saying she has always had a crush on him reeked of a hidden agenda. I think she believes having him on her side will strengthen her position in front of Smurf. Time will tell if that works. Anyway, I don’t want Angela around.

As for Pope, he did apologize to Joshua for not helping Julie. He blamed it on Smurf filling her son’s head about what Julia was up to. I don’t know about you, but to me, it was clear Joshua wasn’t going to forgive Pope anytime soon. Joshua is working on taking down Smurf, and I think he’ll be okay if his uncles end up being collateral damage.

Joshua did make a mistake, though. After what Mia did, he locked her out of his house, and she proceeded to trash his belongings. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mia take some sort of revenge down the line. She knows Joshua stole from Smurf. Maybe she’ll use that information to blackmail him? Mia is a dangerous character, and I’m here for her fighting with Joshua.

I was surprised to see Craig treating Frankie the way he did. I understood where he was coming from, but he seemed a bit too harsh. She’s the one who brought the Codys a well-paying job. The least he could do was show a bit of restraint when forcing her to pay up.

As for the job, I enjoyed seeing the Codys figuring out how to successfully pull it off. It was well-written. The way they separated the truck and the security car made sense. I would have liked something to go wrong during it (and the Codys frantically trying to solve the issue), but I guess, with everything thing else happening, the writers probably didn’t want to spend more time than necessary on the scene.

The flashback sequence in ‘Tank’ wasn’t the most exciting. It basically told us that Colin suffered from PTSD and showed how Janine stood up for him in front of the group. We also got to know a bit more about the relationship Janine had with her mother. However, it wasn’t something many of us already didn’t expect.

It was fun to see the present day Janine struggling to cope with her health. Perhaps Pope will force her to get treated? Anyway, the scene she shared with Adrian was fun. She broke into Deran and Adrian’s house with lasagna. Ha!

I’m worried about Adrian. It’s only a matter of time before the Codys figure out he’s working with the Feds. Colby did tell Deran about Adrian smuggling drugs for Jack. I hope Deran confronts Adrian about it and the two are able to work things out.

All in all, ‘Tank’ featured an enjoyable heist. However, plot-wise, it felt more like an episode which laid the groundwork for what’s yet to come. It wasn’t filler, but nothing too big happened during most of the runtime.

And before I forget, Renn’s back in Craig’s life. So, yay?
