Tapas Tuesday: “MagicalMashup!”

MagicalMashup! by Lady T. Musings
MagicalMashup!

MagicalMashup!, a new adult fantasy webcomic by Lady T. Musings, contains a sweet and fun mix that includes body positivity and captivating world-building.

The world of Magos brims with magical wonders. Junah, a twenty-three-year-old compound mage, leaves her home in Fayetown to attend the Institute of Mystical, Magical and Mythical Arts. On her way, she meets the wizard Kaelen and other new friends. She adapts herself to her new school while figuring out her new brooding roommate Kaelen.

MagicalMashup! serves fascinating world-building and dynamic characterization. The creator effortlessly weaves essential details about the history and level of technology through news sources and scenic moments. Details about the various mage classes (like wizards) and abilities aren’t confusing or convoluted.

Junah’s character design and arc impressed me. A plus-sized Black woman, neither the story nor the supporting characters demarcate her for her appearance. Before attending the Institute, she lived most of her life at home. Her family supports her goals and encourages her to pursue them. Junah, the protagonist of her own story, isn’t fodder for the side characters’ development, not even for Kaelen. She accommodates herself and wields her magic without shame. She’s her own character instead of an ideal or a stereotype. She’s a vibrant and lovely person with worries and aspirations.
