The first teaser trailer for the upcoming Chucky TV series has been released. I’m incredibly excited about the latest installment in the long-running Child’s Play franchise. The upcoming show will star a queer kid who, unfortunately, decides to pick up a murderous Good Guy doll.

I don’t know about you, but I’m always ready for the camp, gore, and horror featured in the Child’s Play franchise. I have been looking forward to watching the Chucky TV series ever since the news broke in 2018. And judging from the teaser trailer, it seems it won’t disappoint.

In my opinion, the 20-second long teaser trailer is already better than the 2019 Child’s Play remake. The reboot tried to “modernize” the concept of Child’s Play by featuring Artificial Intelligence and it just didn’t work. (Make sure to read my review.) The Chucky TV show, on the other hand, set in modern times, will stick to the supernatural aspect and continue to tell the story from the original film series. The show has also been created by Don Mancini. So, that’s already a huge plus.

Enjoy the teaser trailer!

Mancini spoke with Entertainment Weekly to share what fans can expect from the eight-episode long TV series. Our lead is going to be a 14-year-old gay boy (played by Zackary Arthur) who experiences being bullied and is kind of lost after the recent death of his mother. He likes making sculptures using doll parts and that’s how the Chucky/Good Guy doll catches his attention during a yard sale.

While the Child’s Play franchise has included queer characters over the years, the Chucky TV series is the first time we will be getting a human queer protagonist. And I’m here for it.

Along with Arthur, the story will also have other teens played by Teo Briones, Alyvia Alyn Lind, and Björgvin Arnarson. The choice of opting for teens was deliberate. Mancini had already explored little kids getting to live the horrors of Chucky. So, this time he wanted to focus on young teenagers.

Of course, familiar faces will return. Alex Vincent will be back to play Andy with Christine Elise McCarthy returning as Andy’s foster-sister Kyle. Fiona Dourif and Jennifer Tilly will return, too. Chucky will be voiced by Brad Dourif.

It’s basically the old generation meeting the new with Andy and Kyle likely having to team up with the young teens to face Chucky and Tiffany. I wonder if Chucky and Tiffany’s kid Glen/Glenda will appear too? I do hope so.

With how things ended on some major cliffhangers during 2017’s Cult of Chucky, I can’t even begin to imagine the awesomeness Mancini has got planned. Mancini’s proud of how he and his team have “spun a relatively consistent and coherent narrative over the course of 33 years and seven films and now eight episodes of television.”

He added, “I think that’s one of the things that our fans like about the Chucky franchise. I deliberately ended Cult of Chucky on a series of cliffhangers, major cliffhangers, because I knew a TV series would be the ideal place to accommodate delving into the ramifications. So we begin the series introducing our new story, our new milieu, and then we start to bring the veteran characters into the story, and it all comes together for a big showdown.”

Fingers crossed the Chucky TV series gets the audience it deserves because Mancini’s ready to not only produce new Child’s Play movies but also more seasons of Chucky to expand the iconic franchise.

The Chucky TV series is scheduled to premiere this Fall on SYFY and the USA Network come October 12, 2021. According to Collider, the world premiere of the series trailer will happen at the Comic-Con@Home’s Chucky panel, set to go live on July 25, 5 p.m. ET.

  1. I am definitely not here for it. This really is a nightmare for me. For years I have hoped for some good queer tv shows but currently everything that comes out with queer characters I find horrible. I don’t need to see this horror, I am living it.
