The Cursed Child Character Portraits Revealed

Harry Potter and The Cursed Child photos are finally here! Personally, I’ve been really excited to see the images for the new play, and yesterday, images of Ron and Hermione and their daughter, Rose, dropped. Today, we got photos of the Malfoys.

We already had some photos of the cast outside of the play that were revealed in December 2015. Initially there was a buzz because an actress of color had been cast as Hermione, but Rowling herself wholeheartedly endorsed it with a tweet saying: “Canon: brown eyes, frizzy hair and very clever. White skin was never specified. Rowling loves black Hermione.”

The new photos show an older Ron with Hermione and their daughter, Rose. According to canon, Ron and Hermione had another child named Hugo, though in the epilogue, he’s too young to go to Hogwarts just yet. Ron looks appropriately a bit goofy, Hermione is stunning, and their daughter is a happy mixture of both of them.

Today, we got photos of Draco Malfoy and his son, Scorpius. It appears that Draco took after hisLucius in his West End portrait. It’s a far cry better than the awkward old age makeup and receding hairline they did on Tom Felton in Deathly Hallows Part 2 for the epilogue. Scorpius’ mother Astoria is not pictured. I think that Draco looks very severe, and there is definite doubt and fear in Scorpius’ eyes. I think both actors cast in these roles look fantastic.

On Tuesday, we received photos of Ginny, Harry, and their son, Albus Severus Potter. Absent from the family portrait are James Sirius, the eldest Potter, and Lily Luna Potter, the baby of the family. Like the other characters, casting for older Harry and older Ginny are perfect. I actually had to look twice at the actress cast as Ginny.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has preview performances from June 6th onward, but opens to the public in July 2016. The Cursed Child will be available to purchase from major book retailers on July 31, 2016, which is just in time for Harry’s birthday!

What do you think of the cast and the new portraits?
