The Expanse at New York Comic Con 2016

The Expanse title

The Expanse was one of my favorite new shows of 2016, and getting to talk to the cast is always a pleasure. They stopped by New York Comic Con to preview season 2 of their hit show, which returns in early 2017.

I was able to interview the cast of The Expanse at last year’s NYCC, and Erin interviewed them at SDCC in July, but this year I got to talk to different cast members, which was a treat.

Cast members Steven Strait, Dominique Tipper, Wes Chatham, and Cas Anvar were on hand, along with executive producer Mark Fergus, as well as authors Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (aka James S.A. Corey).

The Expanse Steven DominiqueMy table only got a few minutes with Wes and Cas, sadly, but we got almost twenty minutes with Steven and Dominique, which really made for an amazing interview. They talked about what we can expect from the Roci crew in season 2, including Holden and Miller facing the after effects of the radiation they endured. Additionally, Steven specifically talked about Holden dealing with PTSD, and it sounds like he did a lot of research on it so that he could portray it realistically and do it justice.

The big story point that everyone talked about was how our intrepid heroes must figure out how to carry on after witnessing what amounts to genocide at the end of season 1. Apparently we can expect to see some shifts in character dynamics. Wes and Dominique both mentioned that Amos will be forced to confront the kind of person he is without Naomi to act as his moral compass, and Dominique and Steven indicated that something romantic happens with Naomi and Holden.

With everything we learned about season 2, I’m even more excited now than I was when season 1 first ended.
