The Expanse Season 2: New Trailer & Release Date

The Expanse season 2

Hold on to your butts, Expanse fans – we finally have a season two trailer and release date! I don’t know about you, but once I finally got around to binge watching the first season, I’ve been itching for news about The Expanse season 2.

Of course some of the production and cast members attended both San Diego Comic-Con and NYCC this year; in fact, most recently Geekiary writer Jamie got to participate in The Expanse season 2 press room at NYCC, but not surprisingly the cast members were very vague about what was in store for their characters and the show as a whole. Not that the new trailer reveals much more – but it’s still fun to watch!

What’s not fun is that in the very bleak future portrayed in The Expanse (two hundred years from now, to be exact), “corruption, deception, and injustice still rule”. The trailer also quotes Salon, which called the show “Battlestar Galactica meets Game of Thrones”, but I’d prefer to think of The Expanse as its own show, its own story. Yes, it’s a sci-fi drama with darker tones that is set [mostly] in space, and it airs on the same network that once hosted BSG; admittedly, I myself have even compared the two in a positive manner. But I believe that The Expanse can and will be its own thing.

I’m definitely hoping that we’ll get to see more of and about Mars in season two, and between this trailer and the one that aired over the summer I think that’s entirely possible. I honestly don’t know if I can even fathom what else will happen, because the first season packed quite a few punches – and if you haven’t watched it yet, you should. It just hit Netflix for international users, and will be streaming on Amazon Prime beginning December 14th.

The Expanse season 2 premiere airs on SyFy on February 8th, 2017.
