The Fantastic Four Rumored for 2022 MCU Introduction

Rumor has it that the Fantastic Four might make its first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sometime in 2022, following the two less than stellar live-action incarnations released by FOX.

At the moment, this is only but a rumor and a wish in the hearts of many Fantastic Four fans around the world. But Peyton Reed, the man who directed Marvel’s Ant-Man back in 2015, has repeatedly pitched his ideas for an MCU Fantastic Four movie to Kevin Feige. As initially reported by “Geeks Worldwide”, Reed pitched an idea for the Fantastic Four back when FOX still owned the rights to the superhero family. However, the executives over at FOX weren’t too keen on his ideas and had their own ideas in store. Unfortunately, we all know how that 2015 Fantastic Four “reboot” was received by critics and fans, alike.

However, the Disney/FOX merger deal was finalized back in March 2019, giving Disney’s Marvel Studios the ability to use characters from the Fantastic Four, as well as the X-Men and Deadpool. This means that sometime in the future, we will see these superheroes integrated into the already established cinematic superhero behemoth, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The only real question that remains is: “when will we see these characters join the MCU”?

Considering that this news regarding the Fantastic Four is only a rumor, we have to look for other information that might provide some kind of credibility to the rumor. Already, I would say that it’s interesting that Peyton Reed of Ant-Man has been interested with this particular group of superheroes for years. It might give him an edge with convincing Marvel executives, given his already published work within the MCU. However, the biggest piece of information that may provide some credibility to this rumor has to do with the current plans for the next phase of Marvel movies.

Back in November 2017, it was confirmed by Bog Iger that the general focus for the upcoming “Phase Four” Marvel movies would be rooted within the cosmic side of the Marvel universe—as in other worlds, aliens, cosmic entities, and of course, space exploration: “We’re looking for worlds that are completely separate—geographically or in time—from the worlds that we’ve already visited.” And given what we’ve already been delivered in 2018 and 2019, thus far, in addition to what we know about upcoming Marvel movies, it does seem as though Phase Four will be rooted deeply in Marvel cosmic lore.

We know that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will hit the big screens sometime in the future. We also know that we’re getting an Eternals movie somewhere within the current Phase Four plans. And given the radiant success of Captain Marvel, it’s fair to say that we’ll be getting sequel eventually. All three of these movies are tied to the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe, so I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility for the Fantastic Four to be introduced within this phase. After all, the Fantastic Four provides a perfect opportunity to use characters like Silver Surfer and Galactus, two big-time players on the cosmic side of Marvel.

But what do you think about this rumor? Does it have some credibility to it, considering what we know about the direction Marvel is headed in? Would you want to see the MCU’s version of The Fantastic Four? Let us know in the comments down below!
