Chilling “The Mothman Legacy” Documentary Gets New Trailer and Art!

The first trailer for The Mothman Legacy documentary has been released by Small Town Monsters. The upcoming offering is from documentarian Seth Breedlove. It’s currently scheduled to be released sometime in Fall 2020.

The trailer for the upcoming The Mothman Legacy documentary aims to offer audiences “a glimpse into some of the dark, haunting landscapes captured around West Virginia, along with sound clips from witnesses interviewed for the new film.”

A new one-sheet from acclaimed artist, Christopher Shy (Mandy, Godzilla: King of the Monsters) has also been shared.

The third installment is being promoted as the final chapter in Breedlove’s Mothman trilogy. It features a story covering the numerous sightings of the folk legend. The narrative will go into the creature’s legends and talk about why it’s still (allegedly) seen throughout the area even today. The installment “promises” to give viewers “some of the most intense and terrifying encounters ever recorded.”

According to the press release, the official description reads:

Many believe the Mothman to be a 1960’s phenomenon, an omen only appearing before tragedy, and disappearing after a flap of sightings and the subsequent Silver Bridge collapse in 1967. But what if there’s more? What if the origins of this omen trace back much further and go much deeper than anyone realized? And what if…the sightings never ended?

Directed by Breedlove, it has been produced by Adrienne Breedlove. Lyle Blackburn has been brought back to narrate with cinematography by Zac Palmisano and an original score by Brandon Dalo.

The indie documentary has planned a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for fans to participate in. Some of the rewards include DVD and Blu-ray copies of the film, posters, and t-shirts.

The previous two titles in the trilogy are 2017’s The Mothman of Point Pleasant and 2019’s Terror in the Skies.

As of writing this, the YouTube description for the trailer states the third installment will debut on September 18, 2020. It’s supposed to have a big-screen premiere to play a part in the kickoff for the annual Mothman Festival held in Point Pleasant, WV the same weekend as the release.

I got to know about this folk legend through the 2002 horror-mystery movie titled The Mothman Prophecies. Based on the 1975 book of the same name, by author John Keel, the movie starred actor Richard Gere.
