“The New Mutants” Live-Action Film Will Finally Be Released This April, Right?

It looks like the world will finally be able to watch The New Mutants live-action film. Apparantly, the theatrical release will be director Josh Boone’s original cut. It currently has a US release date of April 3, 2020. I hope this time the movie sticks to the schedule.

The New Mutants has been sitting on the shelf for a couple of years now. It was originally supposed to be released back in April 2018. And for those of you who were waiting, the current release date is April 3, 2020.

We will also be getting a new trailer on January 6, 2020.

The current project has been involved in a whole lot of studio-related drama. Numerous rumors surfaced online about why so many delays struck The New Mutants. Many of the rumors involved Fox wanting to increase the horror elements. Massive reshoots were planned, but apparantly none of them took place because of the Fox-Disney merger?

Then there was talk about Disney not being happy with the film and possibly releasing it on the Disney+ streaming service because of low box office projections.

It was an entire mess that kept many X-Men fans busy speculating about the future of mutants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The fact Dark Phoenix was released on June 7, 2019 and flopped also led to certain members of the fandom thinking that Disney might not release The New Mutants at all.

However, it seems some kind of decision has been achieved by the House of Mouse. The studio will be releasing the X-Men spin-off on April 3, 2020. Here’s to hoping the premiere date doesn’t change again.

Director Josh Boone took to Instagram to promote the project. He also replied to a fan about the upcoming release being the one he originally shot.

But some are still taking Boone’s response with a grain of salt.

Does his reply mean none of the reshot material made it into the final cut? Or were some of the scenes changed during minor reshoots but the final version still resembles his original vision?

There are also rumors about how Disney might have added content that will connect the upcoming movie to the MCU.

You know what? I highly doubt that’s the case. I don’t see Kevin Feige doing anything like that. He will introduce the X-Men team into the MCU on his own terms.

Anyway, I just want The New Mutants to be released already so we can close the book on Fox’s live-action X-Men franchise.

It has been disappointing to see Fox be the one to usher the age of superhero franchises in Hollywood only to destroy it all by focusing on unfortunate narrative choices (especially by shinning the spotlight on a handful of characters).

I have no idea who the heck told Fox that fans wanted Mystique to be played by Jennifer Lawrence and have her be a hero. Sigh!

The X-Men property is an entire self-contained comic book universe in its own right. It is also bigger than Wolverine, Jean, Magneto, and Professor X. If only Fox was able to see that.

The studio was continuously unsuccessful to course-correct while Feige built his MCU (which, during the early days, lacked the diversity Fox’s X-Men already had).

Fingers crossed Feige is able to better handle the mutants.

Are you looking forward to watching The New Mutants? Let us know.
