The USO Is Throwing a Virtual Comic Con for Military Families!

If you’re a US military member (or there’s one in your household) you’re in luck. The USO MVP Con has arrived!

The USO is a non-partisan group that’s all about the troops. They’re famous for bringing shockingly high-end talent on base tours both nationally and internationally. I was never on a big enough base in Iraq to see any big shows, but they brought musicians and actors by our smaller base for meet and greets a time or two.

With everything going on, travel isn’t really an option. They have found a way to bring their trademark star power home for the troops though. The USO MVP Con – an extension of their MVP series – is a bunch of celebrity broadcasts featuring fandom favorites. For example:

  • Greg Grunberg from Heroes is doing a Q&A followed by a performance from his band, The Action Figures. That band is basically all famous people as well:
Adrian Pasdar and Jack Coleman (Heroes), Scott Grimes (Band of Brothers), Melora Hardin (The Office) and Michael Chiklis (The Shield).
  • The Umbrella Academy‘s Gerard Way has a panel. We’re not sure if it’s a Q&A, but it is strongly possible he will drop some TUA lore. Maybe he’ll have My Chemical Romance on as well, who knows?
  • DC is contributing highlights from their DC Fandom. We are getting panels on The Flash, Titans, and “BAWSE Females of Color” within the DC Universe.
  • Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson are having a panel to discuss where they are in the MCU now. Captain America holds a special place in soldiers’ hearts (remember how upset I got about the Hydra Cap fiasco?), so this is one I’m seriously looking forward to.

USO MVP Con

The one caveat here is that, like all USO events, this is for military families. You need to have a military family member to sign up for the panels.

When you sign up for each Zoom seminar, you’ll have to vouch that you’re either a Department of Defense ID holder or a dependent of one. The USO is using the honor system, so you won’t need your ID on hand when you register. You will be asked to provide your installation, service branch and rank for yourself or your family member.

Little advice? Don’t be tempted to cheat – you don’t need that on your karma. Just reach out to your military friends and family to join in. They could really use some support given *waves vaguely towards Washington D.C.*

The Captain America and Black Widow earliest panels start today, so if you’re eligible, head over to the event site to check the schedule and sign up!
