We Are Getting More Tsurune! Season 2 Announced

Tsurune season 2

The anime news just keeps on coming! (At least, anime news for titles I watch.) Following on the heels of the announcement that One Punch Man is finally getting a third season, it was revealed earlier today that archery anime Tsurune will be returning for season 2.

Kyoto Animation announced that Tsurune season 2 is called Tsurune: Tsunagari no Issha (Tsurune: The Connecting Arrow). Season 1 originally aired in 2018 and is currently streaming on Crunchyroll. It didn’t really gain the popularity I thought it might, but it was up against a bunch of heavy hitters when it was released. It’s extremely underrated and definitely worth a watch if you haven’t seen it already.

It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it’s likely that season 2 will also stream on Crunchyroll.

Original cast members confirmed to be returning for the new season include Yūto Uemura as Minato Narumiya and Kensho Ono as Shū Fujiwara. Jun Fukuyama will be joining the cast as Eisuke Nikaidō (according to Anime News Network, that name spelling is not confirmed). Takuya Yamamura is returning to direct.

As with the second season of SK8 the Infinity, which was announced earlier this week, it’s hard to tell what the plot will be. Season 1 of Tsurune had an almost perfect arc, and even the OVA that came bundled with the home video release was more of a coda than a setup. However, we can reasonably assume that Fukuyama’s character (the one on the right in the above promotional image) will be a major factor.

The Gekijōban Tsurune: Hajimari no Issha (Tsurune The Movie: The First Arrow) film, also directed by Yamamura (who also wrote the script) released in Japan just last Friday. (Cross your fingers that the film comes to Crunchyroll as well! It’s so hard being an international fan of anime, waiting for all of these films to make it out of Japan.) A stage event for the film will be held on August 26 that will allegedly debut a promotional video for the new season.

Tsurune season 2 will premiere in January 2023.
