Creative Beast Studio has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the “Beasts of the Mesozoic: Tyrannosaur Series” action figures!

The upcoming Trynannosaur-themed action figures are third in the series, following the Raptors and Ceratopsians. The “Beasts of the Mesozoic: Tyrannosaur Series” of action figures will include the iconic Tyrannosaurus rex, Yutyrannus huali, Gorgosaurus libratus, Tarbosaurus bataar, and Albertosaurus sarcophagus. With some of these dinosaur species making their action figure debut via the current line, I’m excited as a dinosaur fan!

The initial goal for the Kickstarter campaign is $185,000. You can visit the campaign here. It includes four Tyrannosaurus rex figures and two Kickstarter exclusive prints. A set of Tyrannosaur art postcards are also included as part of the initial Kickstarter offerings. The stretch goals include a juvenile T. rex (at $200,000) along with an additional 17 species (which include feathered dinos).

More details:

  • 14-inch 1/35th scale T. rex action figure.
  • 14-inch 1/35th scale special edition T. rex action figure variant featuring colors inspired by the 1999 nature documentary Walking With Dinosaurs (Kickstarter backer exclusive).
  • 27-inch 1/18th scale T. rex action figure.
  • 27-inch 1/18th scale special edition T. rex action figure variant that pays homage to the 1980s toy line Dino Riders (Kickstarter backer exclusive).
  • Limited edition art print based on the T. rex in Dino Riders and signed by the artist, Ezra Tucker (Kickstarter exclusive).
  • Limited edition art print based on the T. rex in Walking With Dinosaurs and signed by the artist, Raul Ramos (Kickstarter exclusive).

As with the exclusive Monoclonius figure from the Ceratopsians Kickstarter, the Dino Riders-inspired T. rex again features brand new box art by wildlife artist, Ezra Tucker, one of the original package artists for the ‘80s toyline. This figure is unique because the dino features the striking green and beige coloration from the cartoon as well as on the box art for the vintage toy.

The final Dino Riders toy release featured a grey version of that design. That’s why this new special edition offering from Creative Beast Studio will be the first time fans of Dino Riders can own a T. rex action figure painted in the originally intended colors seen on the Dino Riders toy prototype and the television show.

David Silva is behind the Tyrannosaur Series, which will present 1/6th, 1/18th, or 1/35th scale action figures. Silva collaborated with talented artists Jacob Baardse, Raul Ramos, RJ Palmer, Gabriel Ugueto, and Shannon Beaumont among others to create unique designs, sculpts, and package art. Take note; each detailed figure will include 17-22 points of articulation.

After the Raptor and Ceratopsian dinosaur action figures lines, I knew there was only one option for my next series: the King of the Cretaceous, Tyrannosaurus rex, and its fascinating relatives!” shared Silva. “In creating these Tyrannosaurs, it’s been a privilege to explore both well-known and more obscure species from this famous dinosaur family, while also paying homage to two pop culture icons that have fueled my dinosaur obsession: Walking With Dinosaurs and Dino Riders.”

As of writing this, the Kickstarter campaign has been able to collect more than $145,000, and there are still 29 days left for people to back the project. The estimated delivery for the perks is currently September 22, 2022.

After this campaign wraps up, I guess there are plans to go into the future and introduce the Cyberzoic Series. I would like to see it.

For those interested, we did do an unboxing video and written review of the Velociraptor mongoliensis action figure from Creative Beast Studio. This series really does include highly detailed and articulated dino figures.
