VIZ Media to Launch My Hero Academia: Vigilantes This Summer

My Hero Academia Vigilantes volume 1The popular My Hero Academia is about a boy without superpowers in a world where having superpowers is the norm. Yesterday, VIZ Media announced a brand new title set in the same world: My Hero Academia: Vigilantes.

Launching July 3rd, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is set in the same superpowered universe as the original My Hero Academia. Trained and licensed heroes protect the world from evil, but not everyone who wants to help can be a hero. These people use their powers to serve and protect without legal sanction. Are they in the shadows fighting for justice, or are they only out for themselves? Whatever their reasoning, they can only be called vigilantes.

The highly-anticipated comedy-action manga series is rated “T” for teens and will be published in print and digital editions under the Shonen Jump imprint. The first print volume will retail for $9.99 ($12.99 Canadian), and the digital volume will be available from VIZ.com and the VIZ Manga App, as well as Nook, Kindle, Kobo, iBooks, comiXology, and Google Play.

Based on original concepts by series creator Kohei Horikoshi, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes features story by Hideyuki Furuhashi and artwork by Betten Court. New manga volumes will be released every four months.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes depicts the adventures of self-styled heroes who fight evil and defend the innocent in spite of not having the coveted Heroes License,” says Michael Montesa, Editor. “Dive into this exciting new series that expands the world of My Hero Academia this summer!”

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes launches just before this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, where creator Kohei Horikoshi is scheduled to attend! It’s a real treat for anime and manga fans, as most of the content at SDCC tends to be fan-related, since it’s difficult to get original creators and voice actors to American conventions.
