A new trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix has been released. It is all about making sure the entire audience knows Jean Grey is a very special girl while Ororo Munroe continues to be a waste of space.

Waiting for X-Men: Dark Phoenix to be released has been accompanied by a lot of drama. Currently, it has a June 7, 2019, release date. Let’s see if it does stick to that schedule and debuts in theaters this time around. Anyway, coming to the latest X-Men: Dark Phoenix trailer, it feels like a rehash of X-Men: The Last Stand, complete with the death of a team member, Jean wearing similar clothes, and a similar climax.

Here’s the trailer!

X-Men: Age of Apocalypse was all about manpain and very white (as far as the main players in the narrative are concerned). X-Men: Dark Phoenix seems to be following suit. Charles and Erik are trying to figure out how to handle Jean while a new character (played by Jessica Chastain) has been added to the mix to make things complicated.

There are theories about Chastain’s character being Cassandra Nova!

That is exactly what the movie was missing, a showdown between Charles and her sister for more manpain. Sigh!

Also, the fate of Mystique (Charles’ adoptive sister) is going to cause even more white manpain.

How could the writers of this film sit down and be okay with coming up with such a narrative when certain other comic book films and TV shows are trying (and succeeding) to push the envelope in terms of representation?

And don’t even get me started on the disrespect Storm continues to experience because of this live-action X-Men film franchise.

Regardless of being played by Halle Berry or Alexandra Shipp, for decades Storm has been nothing more than the token African American female team member and that is just unfortunate.

Judging by the trailer, Shipp’s Storm will be throwing a few lightning bolts and call it a day.

Here’s hoping it is Storm who ends up reaching out to Jean and helps her calm down because doing so would at least stop X-Men: Dark Phoenix from being all about special white mutants.
