Sony Pictures Virtual Reality (SPVR) and XR Games will be releasing Zombieland VR: Headshot Fever this Spring for the Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality headsets, and later for PlayStation VR.

The upcoming release is set in the action-comedy Zombieland universe. Players will be rewarded for showcasing their skills, speed, and accuracy as they use powerful weapons and upgrades to take down the undead. As far as the story goes, you will get to meet Tallahassee, Wichita, Columbus, and Little Rock as they arrive in Silicon Valley to launch a zombie-killing racecourse called the Zombieland Invitational.

As for the gameplay, Zombieland VR: Headshot Fever combines classic arcade light-gun shooting with split-second racing mechanics. Achieving two quick headshots will turn the world slow (the Adrenaline System), giving you more time to rack up combos, get faster times, and progress in the leaderboards.

The Key Features include:

  • Join the crew – Get trained up by Tallahassee, Wichita, Columbus, and Little Rock to take on the undead.
  • Adrenaline system – Two headshots in a row slows down the world, offering you an advantage.
  • Global leaderboards – Challenge your friends, beat their times and climb the global leaderboards.
  • Powerful weapons – Unlock shotguns, revolvers, assault rifles, and more to find your ideal loadout.
  • Upgrade your arsenal – Improve your weapons with powerful upgrades and perks.
  • The Zombieland Invitational – Take your skills, weapons, upgrades, and perks into the fastest, most dangerous zombie-killing race course ever devised.
  • Built for VR from the ground up – Bringing light-gun shooters back from the dead, and into your home.

With this VR game, we’re bringing the zombie apocalypse right to you in a totally new way while preserving the humor and wit of the hit movie franchise. Now ‘Zombieland’ fans can feel what it’s like to stare down an onslaught of Zombie hordes and make split-second gameplay decisions in order to blast their way to survival,” said Jake Zim, SVP, virtual reality, Sony Pictures Entertainment. “The team at XR Games not only retained the action, characters and humor of what made the films so successful, but they’ve given fans a new way to become part of the ‘Zombieland’ universe.”

Being trusted with bringing an iconic Sony Pictures franchise to life is extra rewarding and exciting when you’re a huge fan of Zombieland,” shared Bobby Thandi, Founder and CEO of XR Games. “The Zombieland world is a no-nonsense kind of place, and to this end, we’ve made one of the purest shooting games for VR. We hand-crafted the content, upping replayability, and incorporated mechanics from racing games such as time splits so you know exactly how well you’re doing. It’s about practicing ’til you’re perfect. Your speed and accuracy with each shot is imperative to score the fastest time (pro tip: remember the Navy SEALs quote – slow is smooth and smooth is fast). And your performance is being assessed via the witty banter of Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, and Little Rock. They’re not gentle with their opinions!”

As for XR Games, it’s headquartered in Leeds, England, and was founded in 2017. Do visit the game’s official website for more information.

The first Zombieland movie debuted in 2009 with a sequel following a decade later in 2019. As a fan of this movie franchise, I hope this game gets a warm welcome.
