“House of the Dragon: The Complete Second Season” Gets 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD Release This November!

Fans of HBO’s live-action House of the Dragon series will be able to own the complete second season on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD come November 19, 2024.

Courtesy of Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment, House of the Dragon: The Complete Second Season will include over an hour of bonus content for fans to enjoy along with the ability to rewatch the 8 episodes whenever they please.

Collectors can look forward to owning the live-action show about dragons and political drama on the 4K UHD Steelbook, which will be made available alongside the standard 4K UHD release later this year.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire and Blood”, House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events of HBO’s mega-hit Game of Thrones. Focusing on House Targaryen, the series stars Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, and more.

The never-before-seen featurettes exclusive to the 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD release are:

• Family Tree (TRT 05:12)
  • Learn about the weblike reach of House Targaryen.
• Divided Kingdoms (TRT 09:05)
  • Co-creator/Showrunner/Executive Producer Ryan Condal, along with the cast and crew, talks about what to expect from the second installment.

The runtime for the home release comes in at approx. 480 min. Of course, the show has adult themes and explicit scenes and has been rated as such.

Premiering on June 16, 2024, the finale for the second season aired on August 4, 2024. A third season has been greenlit and is expected to air sometime in 2026. Apparantly, the series is supposed to conclude with a fourth season (but don’t quote me on that. When it comes to an IP making money for studios, things tend to change).

I think it is safe to say that the reception has been “mixed” amongst the fandom, with many not appreciating the deviations from the source material. However, HBO seems to be happy with the viewership numbers. Also, House of the Dragon serves as another example of people around the globe being more than okay with watching queer-inclusive content as long as they find the narrative interesting.
