Historical Fiction Biographies of Shelley, Tesla, Socrates and More Releasing This March on ComiXology!
ComiXology Originals and Becco Giallo (Italian publisher) have announced that they will be releasing five historical fiction biographies as comic books for the first time ever for English readers. The upcoming releases feature icons (from a range of fields) such as Mary Shelley, Socrates, Nikola Tesla, Vincent Van Gogh, and Virginia Woolf. The biographies will be released digitally in English come March 28, 2023.
The new releases have been written and drawn by different creative teams. The content has been translated from Italian by Lucy Lenzi. The titles will be available from Amazon’s ComiXology Originals exclusive digital content line. The lettering and layout are by Giulia Gabrielli on all five titles. Stefano A. Cresti served as the Editor on all of them.
Mary Shelley: The Eternal Dream has been written by Alessandro Di Virgilio with art by Manuela Santoni. Of course, her story will talk about how Shelley was inspired to create Frankenstein’s monster.
Socrates has been written by Francesco Barilli with art and cover by Alessandro Ranghiasci. The introduction to the book has been written by journalist Stefano Cardini. The narrative will explore how the trial of Socrates was an example of how democracy could sentence one of its best citizens to death because of his opinions and ideas.
Nikola Tesla has been written by Sergio Rossi. The black and white art is by Giovanni Scarduelli. His story will showcase his struggles to become a visionary engineer and how he came to work for Thomas Edison. The rivalry between him and Edison culminated in the so-called War of Currents.
As for Vincent Van Gogh: Sadness Will Last Forever, you already know that this is going to be a tale that will make you sad. It will explore Vincent Van Gogh’s “tormented and fascinating existence”. The book has been written by Francesco Barilli with art by Sakka (aka Roberta Sacchi). The story is told via an “intense and uninterrupted dialogue” that takes place between him and his madness.
Coming to the fifth title, Virginia Woolf has been written and drawn by Liuba Gabriele. The official description talks about how the story (I would assume) is set in England, March 1941, with Woolf thinking about the war happening in the world and within herself as she walks along the banks of the river Ouse. The narrative will explore her feelings of love, grief, and more.
