Comixology Originals has announced that Love and War issue 1 by writer Andrew Wheeler will debut come April 12, 2022. The upcoming five-issue series is set in the competitive world of varsity Tug-of-War!
Written by Andrew Wheeler (Shout Out), Love and War issue 1 features art by Killian Ng and Guillermo Saavedra, letters by Aditya Bidikar and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, colors by C.R. Chua, and edits by Allison O’Toole.
“Love and War is a romantic sports comedy about how our conflicting passions can pull us in different directions,” shared Wheeler. “It’s a fun, upbeat, inclusive rom-com about love, friendship, and competition in a world that takes varsity Tug-of-War much too seriously!”
The premise will take readers to the Aster Academy School for Arts and Sport, where Tug-of-War is the game of champions. The varsity Tug-of-War Team is determined to win against their rivals Kingdom College. But will they be able to accomplish such a goal?
The story will have Domo, a shy, heavy-set boy, being named the co-captain of the Aster Academy team, thanks to Coach Toth, whose motto is “Excellence, Commitment, Determination, Passion.”
It will fall on Domo to help lead the team to victory along with his co-captain Jocasta, described as a serious athlete who is all about proving she’s the best. Of course, there’s romantic drama involved. Not only will Domo have to deal with the responsibilities of being a co-captain, but he’s also got a struggle with his feelings for ambitious rival Gabriel and new recruit Emil.
The promo material teases that working as a co-captain could make Domo realize that his real strengths lie elsewhere. Hmmm. I’m intrigued. I enjoy reading fun queer-inclusive stories about accepting one’s true self.
Here’s a preview of Love and War issue 1!
