Long-Running Animated Comedy “Rick and Morty” Gets Two More Seasons!

The long-running comedy animated series Rick and Morty will continue to air even longer. Adult Swim has announced that it has greenlit two additional seasons!

The latest renewal ensures that Rick and Morty will reach an impressive milestone of airing for 12 seasons. Who knows, it might end up getting more seasons down the line. Greenlighting more episodes doesn’t come as a surprise as this particular animated show is Adult Swim’s #1 series and has collected two Emmys for Outstanding Animated Program.

I get that Rick and Morty isn’t for everyone, but I do enjoy watching it. Not only do the writers have some well-written jokes about human nature, sci-fi and other media tropes, and a lot more, but the narrative is also very queer-inclusive. And that’s always a good thing in my book, especially when it comes to such a globally popular show.

The premise of the series focuses on a sociopathic genius scientist and his grandson as they get involved in numerous adventures across space and timelines. The rest of the family also partake in the shenanigans as the series progresses.

The show debuted back in December of 2013 and season 7 concluded in December of 2023. As of writing this post, the series has aired a total of 71 episodes. The renewal means that fans will get to enjoy new episodes going into 2029. The eighth season is supposed to premiere sometime in 2025. 

For those who might not know, while the OG series didn’t get a new season in 2024, Rick and Morty: The Anime debuted this year on August 16, 2024. It was created and developed by Takashi Sano and produced by Studio Deen, Sola Entertainment, and Telecom Animation Film for Adult Swim. It is set between the fifth and sixth seasons of the main series. The cast stars Yōhei Tadano as Rick Sanchez and Keisuke Chiba as Morty Smith, reprising their roles from the Japanese dub of the original series.

The news about the additional two season order was revealed during the ‘Rick and Morty’ panel at NYCC 2024 by series executive producers Dan Harmon and Scott Marder. They were joined by series regulars Harry Belden, Ian Cardoni, Sarah Chalke, Spencer Grammer, and Chris Parnell.
