“Jurassic World Rebirth” Takes Huge Chomp Out of the Box Office!

Even though the overall reception hasn’t been great, Jurassic World Rebirth still managed to do well at the weekend box office.
While the returns have been diminishing, the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World IP is holding strong. The latest entry in the long-running franchise, Jurassic World Rebirth, managed to place atop the box office with a good haul for the long weekend, both domestically and worldwide. People sure love dinosaurs, even though the new live-action romp decided to add “Mutadons” to the mix.
Starring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, the action horror JW Rebirth amassed approximately $92 million over the July 4, 2025 – July 6, 2025 weekend and approximately $147.8 million domestically over the long weekend. As of writing this post, the total global haul stands at $322.6 million against a reported production budget of around $180 million.
The film is clearly going to be profitable for the studio. However, I highly doubt it will reach the $1 billion mark that the previous Jurassic World movies have. The second weekend drop will be crucial to determine the longevity of JW Rebirth at the box office, not only because of word-of-mouth but also with James Gunn’s live-action Superman hitting theatres on July 11, 2025.
I watched JW Rebirth and yeah, I didn’t care for it. First of all, the movie’s title doesn’t make sense. The product placement was hilariously bad. Not only that, but the change to the “lore” set by the previous entries felt unnecessary. Also, the “Mutadons” didn’t add anything substantial to the narrative. Everything that transpired could have been accomplished via “normal” dinosaurs.
Here’s my 10 Points or Less Review!
Hey! If you liked it, then good for you for having a fun time at the theatre. I’m just sharing my opinions. Feeling like a spin-off, JW Rebirth just… exists.
As for the rest of the box office, in disappointing news, M3GAN 2.0 failed to find an audience. It dropped more than 50% during the second weekend and collected an estimated $3.9 million, pushing the domestic total to almost $18.7 million and the global haul to around $31 million, a far cry from the first movie’s worldwide total being north of $181 million. I really want the franchise to continue. So, let’s see if the creative team can make a comeback.
The rest of the chart includes entries from the previous weeks, as studios didn’t want to release anything major against JW Rebirth. And with next weekend being the debut of live-action Superman starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult, it will be interesting to see how the iconic Kryptonian will fare against dinosaurs. It’s a make-or-break moment for Gunn’s DCEU.
Coming back to JWorld Rebirth, my issues with the movie aside, I do have to give Universal kudos for allowing Johansson to be the primary lead for a JW entry. Not only that, but an openly gay actor, Bailey, was also cast as a co-lead in a globally marketed blockbuster.
