The X-Men Get Ready to Enter the “Shadows of Tomorrow” Era – NYCC 2025

Marvel Comics had an X-Men Panel during the currently running New York Comic Con and of course, fans were treated to news about what awaits the mutants after the ‘Age of Revelation’ shenanigans. The ‘Shadows of Tomorrow’ narrative is almost here!

The panel included Marvel Comics VP Executive Editor Tom Brevoort, Editor in Chief C.B. Cebulski, writer Jed MacKay, artist Ryan Stegman, writer Benjamin Percy, writer Ashley Allen, and writer Eve L. Ewing. The panel introduced fans to what’s expected from ‘Shadows of Tomorrow’ and how it will impact the X-titles come January 2026 and beyond.

As of writing this post, fans are reading the dark ‘Age of Revelation’ storyline set 10 years into the future. The Storm solo series concluded the first arc with issue 12, and Ororo will next be seen in Rogue Storm, an ‘Age of Revelation’ tie-in that consists of three chapters. It’s basically Evil Goddess Storm vs Rogue’s team of X-Men for the fate of the world. Once that’s done, Ororo will return to her solo series with Storm: Earth’s Mightiest Mutant issue 1 in February 2026. Even though it’s a relaunch, it’s still being written by writer Murewa Ayodele and will continue what he laid the groundwork for during his Storm solo.

I’m disappointed that Storm’s getting another issue 1 launch for Arc 2, titled ‘The War Above All’, instead of continuing with the numbering from Ayodele’s Storm Arc 1, especially when titles like Wolverine and X-Men are sticking to the current numbering, but it is what it is.

Anyway, back to the ‘Shadows of Tomorrow’, the aftermath of ‘Age of Revelation’ has the X-Men being made aware of possible ways to prevent a dark future. The upcoming era is supposed to show the mutants being more proactive when strengthening their alliances, taking “bold actions”, and “empowering” the next generation of mutantdom.

The titles being showcased during the panel include X-Men issue 23 and issue 24, Uncanny X-Men issue 22, Wolverine issue 14, Cyclops issue 1, Generation X-23 issue 1, Inglorious X-Force issue 1, Magik and Colossus issue 1, Rogue issue 1, Storm: Earth’s Mightiest Mutant issue 1, and Wade Wilson: Deadpool issue 1.

I’m glad for Rogue fans having a new solo series to look forward to. It’s set in the present and will be written by Erica Schultz with art by Luigi Zagaria. Rogue’s one of the most popular X-women. So, yay to her getting a chance at a brand new solo story. I do think the market is definitely there for it to be successful.

Returning to Storm: EMM, the official description reads:

“THE WAR ABOVE ALL THUNDERS LOUDER AND CLOSER. As the cosmos braces for annihilation, Storm, unaware of the coming threat, turns her gaze inward – to her home – to Earth. The Earth’s Mightiest Mutant becomes Earth’s protector once more… in a daring new chapter of her life. In this new beginning, Storm shares a Japanese tea ceremony with an enemy and visits France for a masquerade with monsters. However, it all ends in a gut-wrenching funeral… for in this new era of Ororo Munroe, Mistress Death is never far behind.”

Lady Death wasn’t happy about what happened to Oblivion during the 12-issue Storm solo. So, yeah, Ayodele will show her amassing an army for an exciting cosmic battle in Storm: EMM. Like I said, the relaunch to issue 1 for the second arc wasn’t necessary. But Marvel’s gonna Marvel.

More details about the ‘Shadows of Tomorrow’ will be revealed down the line. And of course, I plan to cover the Storm solo series.
