Comic-Con 2016: Diamond Select Toys Spider-Gwen Exclusive
One of the Diamond Select Toys Comic-Con exclusives for this year was a gorgeous PVC statue of an unmasked Spider-Gwen, and I was lucky enough to get my hands on one, which is exciting on several levels.
You see, once upon a time, I was a pretty big fan of Spider-Man. Unfortunately, as the years went by I felt that they really over-saturated the market with him, and that love I once had began to fade. But then I discovered Spider-Gwen and fell in love all over again.
Spider-Gwen is from an alternate universe in which Gwen Stacy, rather than Peter Parker, was bitten by the spider. She’s smart, she’s a musician, she’s just cool overall, but she’s also REAL. And now I get to display this awesome Diamond Select Toys statue in celebration of my love for this character.
As I already mentioned, this unmasked Spider-Gwen is made of PVC and was an SDCC 2016 exclusive. She is also the first unmasked Spider-Gwen that DST has officially released, although you can pre-order their Premier Collection Spider-Gwen resin statue that was revealed at C2E2 earlier this year.
The SDCC unmasked Spider-Gwen features the same backdrop as her masked counterpart, that being a stylized section of a New York Brownstone (which is more than fitting for this character). As per the usual with Diamond Select Toys, Spider-Gwen is sculpted with an amazing amount of detail, and the paint is vibrant and true to Spider-Gwen in the comics.
Of course this wasn’t the only exclusive that DST offered at San Diego Comic-Con this year – check out my previous article about some of their other awesome items! And if you can’t get your hands on this particular statue, I highly suggest considering pre-ordering their masked PVC version or the unmasked resin statue mentioned above, both of which are slated to be released this fall.
