Glee 5×10 Review: Trio

It seems Glee is really going to make a full shift to the New York storyline sooner rather than later. It’s as if the freshmen don’t even exist in the show anymore. Trio focused on Rachel and Santana’s feud, and the seniors nearing graduation at McKinley. It was an enjoyable episode but not one of Glee’s best.

I was expecting Rachel and Santana’s fight to escalate but they both came to an understanding this week. They aren’t friends yet (one would argue if they ever were), but Rachel understood why Santana tried out for the part of her understudy. I mean, if Rachel had the same opportunity she would’ve availed herself of it too. The one who got stuck in the middle was Kurt. I liked that he tried to mediate between the two girls, but it was to no success.

Right now, Elliott (Adam Lambert) is definitely the mature one in the group and he doesn’t have time for childish fights. I guess it influenced Kurt’s decision to kick the girls out the band and form a new one with Elliott and Dani (Demi Lovato), and rightfully so. It’s about time Kurt focused on what he wants instead of just being Rachel’s gay best friend.

I was surprised that Rachel showed up at Elliott’s doorstep when she left her apartment. Not only that, she made him sleep on the couch and took ownership of his bed. Elliott’s response to her using the term ‘new best gay’ was something I liked very much. The term can come across as disrespectful to some people and, as Elliott said, it made him feel like a pet. So, score one for some good gay representation in this episode!

Over at McKinley, Blaine, Tina, and Sam try to make the most of their time together before graduation. This included an unofficial lock-in that was crashed by Becky. In the end, they decided that they will always stay friends. There was a lot of talk about Sam complementing Tina’s boobs, and the compliments actually making Tina feel better about herself was just so wrong. So, apparently noticing a girl’s body can do wonders for her confidence. Congratulations on objectifying high school teenagers and women, Glee! The whole thing coupled with Will and Emma trying to make a baby (they even ‘did it’ in the faculty washroom) felt very uncomfortable. By the end of the episode Emma was pregnant. So, does that mean Will won’t be able to move to NY?

The songs were enjoyable. If Glee wants to make Adam Lambert sing in every episode, there won’t be any complaints from me. The more the merrier. His and Lea Michele’s duet of ‘Barracuda’ was amazing. I wish the show would start to give Demi Lovato some focus, too. She is a talented actress and singer.

Next week is Nationals and that’s something to look forward to!
