“Shrek” Celebrates 20th Anniversary With Theatrical Re-Release and 4K UHD Debut!

Shrek will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this spring. Fans can rewatch the Oscar-winning animated film when the Shrek 20th Anniversary Edition becomes available on 4K UHD on May 11, 2021, courtesy of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. It will be re-released in theatres this April.

The upcoming 4K UHD release of Shrek has a lot to offer fans. Along with the original film, it will include over four hours of extra content including a bonus disc that comes with five episodes from The Adventures of Puss in Boots television series and ten shorts including ‘Scared Shrekless’, ‘The Pig Who Cried Werewolf’, ‘The Ghost of Lord Farquaad’ and more!

Released in 2001, this animated comedy movie continues to be part of pop culture. It changed the genre of fairytales. In my opinion, it made Disney and others take more risks with fairytale offerings by breaking away from the traditional mold.

In related news, with Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation working with Fathom Events, Shrek will return to select movie theatres nationwide on April 25, 28, and 29, 2021. Viewers will be treated to DreamWorks Animation’s acclaimed animated short film, To: Gerard, and the trailer to Spirit Untamed, which arrives in theaters on June 4, 2021.
