Queer Dramedy “Here Comes Your Man” Gets Dekkoo Premiere June 24th!
Dekkoo will debut a new Original Series, Here Comes Your Man, on June 24, 2021. Created and directed by Omar Salas Zamora, (from what I can tell) the 5-episode series features a story about figuring out who you are and what you want in life.
I was provided a free screener of Here Comes Your Man episode 1 for review. The opinions I have shared are my own.
Judging from the first episode alone, I can say that this indie production is well-made and well-written. It stars two lead characters, Aaron and Jordan, that you want to learn more about. According to the promotional material, this mini-series will explore their relationship from beginning to end with each episode jumping ahead in time. So, kudos to Zamora for giving us the entire story.
Now, I’m not the biggest fan of content with messy relationships. However, I found myself being invested in what was happening the moment Aaron (Jason Alan Clark) invited Jordan (Calvin Picou) over for a hookup. It’s clear that Jordan’s nervous about their encounter. He also seems to be in search of something different from Aaron. I would describe the awkwardness between them as quite adorable. I just couldn’t help but smile during their interactions. They might not be perfect for each other, but I’m still rooting for them.
Along with the comedic elements, Here Comes Your Man is ready to offer its fair share of serious moments. I wasn’t expecting the first episode to have a conversation showcasing Jordan’s hesitation to sleep with Aaron after finding out Aaron’s HIV positive and Aaron’s reasoning behind why they still needed a contraceptive even though he was undetectable. I’m looking forward to seeing what other queer-centric topics the show will address.
Other than that, Here Comes Your Man will focus on Jordan’s struggle to distance himself from a fake heterosexual relationship. Apparantly, he’s still presenting as “straight” to the outside world and is struggling to come to terms with his sexuality. This is the plot thread that, if handled improperly, can get very messy (and not in a fun way). So, let’s see what Zamora’s able to do while exploring such a narrative.
And for those wondering, I have no idea if the title of this series means it will have any link to the song by the Pixies and if the lyrics might offer a hint for what’s to come. Regardless, I’m here for Aaron and Jason’s journey. The two are on different chapters of their lives and I’m ready to see how (and if) they end up together.
The entire season of Here Comes Your Man will be available for you to stream on Dekkoo on June 24, 2021. Yup, that’s tomorrow! So, make a note!
I recommend that you check it out.
Just so you know, the first episode doesn’t shy away from showing nudity and sexually intimate scenes.
Feel free to leave a comment once you’ve watched it.
