“Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia” Debuts New Visual and Second Promotional Video

The team behind the much-anticipated anime Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia has shared a new main visual along with the second promotional video featuring Sekai no Owari’s new song “Stella” as the anime’s opening theme.
Serialized in Japan on Akitashoten’s Souffle website and written by Tomato Soup, A Witch’s Life in Mongol serves as fictional historical court drama set in the “turbulent and unforgiving era” of the 13th-century Mongol Empire. Inspired by true events, the narrative follows Sitara, a young girl who realizes the importance of gaining knowledge to face numerous challenges. From there, Sitara’s journey gets her involved in the politics of the Mongol Empire.
The story has been recognized through awards, securing 1st place in Takarajimasha’s Kono manga ga sugoi! 2023 (Women’s Category) and placed in the Manga Taisho for two consecutive years, in 2023 and 2024. Most recently, the manga was also awarded the Grand Prize in the Comic Division at the 55th Japan Cartoonists Association Awards.
As for the upcoming anime adaptation, it’s being brought to fans by Science SARU (DAN DA DAN, The Heike Story, and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!).
Illustrated by Character Designer and Sakuga Chief Kenichi Yoshida, the newly released second visual has Sitara standing with Töregene in front of a Mongolian landscape. From the promotional images to the promo videos, I do like the visual style very much.
The music video for the opening theme introduces the rest of the characters in the anime, including the first appearance of Ögedei, the third son of Genghis Khan and future emperor of the Mongol Empire. The cast also includes Jochi, Chagatai, and Töregene.
The narrative will have both Sitara and Töregene bond over the loss of their families and their desire for revenge. While the real-life story of the two women wasn’t a happy one, they did manage to “shake the mightiest empire on earth”.
The TV anime premiere of Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will be a 1-hour special featuring both episodes 1 and 2 on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 11:00 PM JST on TV Asahi Network. Beginning the following week, the series will air every Saturday at 11:30 PM JST.
Muslim representation is very rare in anime. So, of course, I’m excited about Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia for that reason as well.
What about you? What do you think of the visuals and the type of story Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will tell?
Feel free to share your thoughts with us.
