MHA Vigilantes anime season one episode 10, titled ‘Event Announcement!’, offered more backstory on Knuckleduster and his goal to find Kuin. It also set the stage for a serious threat coming toward the Trio.

Even though MHA Vigilantes has a lot of comedy, the core is still that of a dark story. And I have continued to enjoy that about an anime exploring the thin lines between heroism, vigilantisism, and being a villain. ‘Event Announcement!’ spent some time revealing information about Knuckleduster’s personal life. Turns out, he’s got a comatose wife whose health seems to be worsening. Not only that, but his wife was put in such a state after being attacked by… drumroll… Kuin!

At first, I thought Knuckleduster was adamant about finding the source of the strange bees flying around the city because he wanted to put a stop to the spread of Trigger. He does want that, of course. However, I’m here for Knuckleduster having a more personal motive to find Kuin and avenge his wife’s condition. His wife also mentioned their child. I’m not sure if the child died during the bee attack or if something else happened. But yeah, I’m looking forward to Knuckleduster and Kuin’s inevitable reunion.

Soga’s been assisting Knuckleduster with trying to find Kuin. Apparently, Knuckleduster gave Soga a picture of what Kuin used to look like with longer hair and without an eyepatch. I don’t know where and how Knuckleduster found said picture and why he’s sure it’s supposed to be an image of a younger Kuin. But like I said, I’m very interested in this particular story thread. Also, it’s kind of refreshing to have a villain not linked to the MC. No family tragedy pushed Koichi to search for a “mysterious” big bad or a prophecy that pinpointed Koichi as The Chosen One. Koichi’s got no idea what Knuckleduster’s been up to. So, yeah, it’s nice to see him simply trying to balance being a vigilante and a college student.

One of Kuin’s friends reached out to Soga to learn why he was looking for her. That particular scene in the alleyway was quite disturbing as we got to learn Kuin’s able to control human beings, making them walk around and release bees whenever Kuin pleased.

Another disturbing scene involved Kuin entering an apartment and talking to the dead bodies of two adults on the couch while watching TV. I doubt they were her actual parents. But yeah, both scenes showcased how Kuin’s not above using humans as her puppets, even though controlling humans (seemingly) meant they were going to die soon. I do wonder what prompted Kuin to attack Knuckleduster’s wife. Was Kuin trying to control the couple to act as her “parents” while she pretended to be a student? Hmmm.

The episode concluded with Kuin showing interest in an upcoming live performance. Knuckleduster did manage to track her down. However, I think Kuin will still have time to cause chaos at the event before Knuckleduster’s able to stop her.

As for the rest of the episode, it had a lighter tone. Pop Step got invited to perform with other local talent at an event for the Marukane Department Store (the same event Kuin’s about to cause trouble at soon). It made sense for Pop Step to feel nervous about such an opportunity. She’s used to randomly singing her heart out by holding concerts in the streets. Pop Step’s a solo performer. She didn’t have experience singing on an actual stage in front of a large crowd.

I liked how Koichi decided to bring in Makoto to assist Pop Step. And of course, she had managed to deduce Pop Step and Knuckleduster’s identities after the bus incident. I don’t know about you, but I would love to have a friend like Makoto. She immediately got to work to make the singing event prove incredibly beneficial for Pop Step by using her position as Captain Celebrity’s PR manager. So, instead of Pop Step initially taking part in what was a “local Karaoke” competition (as Makoto put it), she was now going to make her stage debut at an actual singing event.

I’m excited about Pop Step’s performance. However, I’m also worried about what Kuin’s got planned. Those bees are no joke and releasing them in a very crowded area… uh-oh!
