As the July 1 premiere date for Killjoys season 2 grows closer, Space Channel has released a new teaser poster and a new extended trailer.
Killjoys, a mix of action and drama, centers around a trio of space bounty hunters: Dutch (Hannah John-Kamen), Johnny Jaqobis (Aaron Ashmore), and D’Avin Jaqobis (Luke McFarlane). Their ship, Lucy, is an AI with a personality and, seemingly, an unusual attachment to John. The fast-paced storytelling is helped along by a great ensemble cast, including the bartender Pree (Thom Allison), a doctor with a secret, Pawter Simms (Sarah Power), Alvis (Morgan Kelly), and the not-so-trustworthy Khlyen (Rob Stewart), who trained Dutch.
The series approaches the emotional state of its characters and relationships with a frankness that doesn’t shy away from handling trauma with the care it deserves, and brings humor as well as raw emotional moments. It’s a space adventure show that isn’t afraid to go for the emotional throat. Creator Michelle Lovretta was also behind the much-beloved series Lost Girl. Killjoys also comes from Temple Street Productions, which is responsible for the ground-breaking hit series Orphan Black.
Killjoys season 1 debuted in June 2015 on Space Channel in Canada and on SyFy Channel in the US.
The new trailer, recently released, reveals Dutch and Johnny trying to find D’Avin, and that Pree has joined the action alongside the Killjoys main trio. There’s plenty of explosions and more badassery, as the poster tagline promises.
“Just be careful.”
“Careful? Where’s the fun in that?”
Some hints for season 2: we know there will be a time jump. Michelle Lovretta suggests that as painful as some of the emotional beats of season 1 were, that’s nothing to how they can test their characters in season 2. “You’re never going to hit them in your first season with characters you’re just getting to know yourself (as well as the audience) as deeply as you can in successive seasons where you really know them now… you know how to hurt them, and I enjoy hurting them.” [Source: IO9] Lovretta also said she wanted to show a lighter side to Dutch, playing off the personality of the actress. Season 2 will be “kicking open the barn doors on a lot of the mythos and questions” raised in season 1.
The warrant is all.
