The Disney+ Day Marvel Trailer Offers Sneak Peeks to Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, & More!
Happy Disney+ Day, Marvel fans! Disney released a 14-minute long MCU trailer on Disney+ to celebrate the occasion, giving a wrap-up of our four MCU shows so far, an extensive look at Hawkeye, peeks at Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Moon Knight, and a bunch more titles to add to the ever-growing MCU list.
Let’s start with that beautiful wrap-up of WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and What If…? That was a damn good Disney+ Day video and, honestly, I’m feeling kind of emotional about it. We’ve been through a heck of a lot over the past year together and I’m grateful to be part of this fandom throughout it all.
While all the footage of these four shows is content we’ve seen before, the cut of it all together brought back a lot of emotions that we felt the first time around. The WandaVision clips focused on grief and Wanda’s power, using the “what is grief, if not love persevering” line over footage from the show to tie the concepts together. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier clips highlighted the difficult race issues that the show tackled, as well as Sam taking up the Captain America mantle. The Loki clips highlighted the trauma the titular character endured during the series, his newfound bond with Agent Mobius, Sylvie’s revenge arc, and the introduction of Kang and the Multiverse. Then What If…? further expands the intense Multiverse themes and explores the concept of what makes a hero.
We’ve been going through hell during this pandemic but the MCU content on Disney+ has continued to deliver and keep our fandom active, engaged, and energized. A lot of us have been working from home, isolated from usual social activities, or suffering the other terrible repercussions of our ongoing global pandemic, but fandom has still managed to socialize with each other via social media despite our isolation, helping each other through these troubled times and forming new friendships along the way. The fact that we’ve managed to even get new content at all has been a blessing, and I certainly haven’t taken it for granted. Watching these summaries brought all of that back for me, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. But these summaries were only the beginning.
The What If…? footage segues into an extensive look at the upcoming series Hawkeye, which premieres in just 12 days. The clips used are largely from the trailer that was already released, but extended to show even more context. One of the best-expanded scenes highlights a rather impressive tracking long shot in the middle of a car chase. I’m absolutely dying to see how that scene was shot in an Assembled episode because it looked fairly tricky. The clips also show some additional footage and dialogue establishing more of the type of relationship Clint and Kate will have. While Clint is far from my favorite MCU character, the show does look pretty darn incredible and Kate is going to be a delight.
From there it transitions with the line ‘today, we look to the future,’ showing us things even further down the line than Hawkeye. Besides a few sparse images released in the lead-up to Disney+ Day, this is the first real look we’ve had at Moon Night, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel. While there’s not a lot of footage from any of these three properties, it’s still far more than I was expecting, and more than we got for Spider-Man: No Way Home at this point in the lead-up to the film (and hell, we still don’t have much for it and it comes out next month!). Oscar Isaac, Tatiana Maslany, and Iman Vellani are welcome additions to the MCU and they all look absolutely spectacular in their roles here.
Stay tuned for a more extensive write-up on Ms. Marvel from Farid soon. The link will be inserted here when it’s available.
And then… what’s next? What follows those clips is the type of teaser we would usually get during SDCC, but since we don’t have that right now (at least not in the large summer format, though we will be going to the special edition in a few weeks time), we get the teases for upcoming content via Disney+ Day instead.
The upcoming titles include the following:
- I Am Groot
- The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special
- What If…? Season 2
- Echo
- Loki Season 2
- X-Men ’97
- Spider-Man: Freshman Year
- Ironheart
- Agatha: House of Harkness
- Armor Wars
- Marvel Zombies
- Secret Invasion
A good chunk of the above is brand new information to me. It’s possible I just haven’t been paying as close attention as some, but what? Marvel Zombies? Spider-Man: Freshman Year? X-Men ’97? Unexpected to say the least! For me, anyway. Perhaps I’ve been living under a rock. But either way, this news is incredibly exciting.
As far as Marvel Zombies is concerned, I’m hoping that since they showed a small clip of the Wanda zombie from What If…? that that’ll be set in that universe. That was by far one of the most intriguing universes in the series and I’m thrilled for more. It really felt like the most fleshed-out new universe in the show and I can easily see how it can support an entire series on its own. Particularly looking forward to the Scott Lang head-in-a-jar situation getting some more details. Is he still the Sexiest Man Alive even if he’s just a head in a jar? Absolutely yes. No question. More Paul Rudd, please!
Besides the new titles that I haven’t quite wrapped my brain around yet, I’m most looking forward to Loki Season 2 and Secret Invasion. Anyone who knows me well knows I wasn’t exactly thrilled with the final episode of Loki, but I hope to get more interaction between Loki and Mobius in the upcoming season, and perhaps finally some happiness and healing for our protagonist as he sorts through his trauma. As far as Secret Invasion is concerned, I just want to see if my guesses are right about who is a Skrull. My current guesses are Happy, a version of Loki (not the TVA one), and Doctor Strange. Let’s see how right I am! Feel free to make fun of my guesses if I’m off base.
I’m not sure if the list of new content is in order, but if it is, I have quite a wait for both of these stories. But it doesn’t look like I’ll be bored while I wait, at least. There’s just so much. What are you looking forward to most? And why? Let me know!
