The first season of The Sandman follows Morpheus, also known as Dream, who is captured in an occult ritual back in 1916 by Roderick Burgess. Imprisoned for 106 years, Morpheus finally escapes only to return to his home, The Dreaming, to find that his nightmares have also found their way out. The narrative is about Morpheus doing his best to stop the nightmares and prevent The Dreaming from being destroyed.
Debuting on Netflix on August 5, 2022, while the viewership numbers weren’t the biggest for the streaming service, the show received critical acclaim and a passionate fandom. It has fortunately been renewed for a second installment.

The series has been developed by the iconic Neil Gaiman, David S. Goyer, and Allan Heinberg. It has been produced by Warner Bros. Television, based on the comic The Sandman by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg for DC Comics.
