Trailer Released For “Pet Sematary: Bloodlines” Before October Premiere!
The trailer for the upcoming Pet Sematary: Bloodlines movie has been released ahead of the October 6, 2023, premiere on the Paramount+ streaming service. And you know what? I’m intrigued.
As the name states, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is connected to the 1983 Pet Sematary novel by the iconic Stephen King. And while said novel has been adapted into live-action more than once, the current project serves as a prequel to the original story.
Fans of the classic novel are familiar with the character named Jud Crandall. While the novel didn’t dive into his backstory, we do know (via the novel and the movies) that he has had experience with the dead coming back to life via the nearby pet sematary.
The upcoming movie will explore young Jud’s past and how he came to be the older guy fans know. The premise is set in 1969 with a young Jud Crandall wanting to leave his hometown of Ludlow, Maine. However, things take a turn for the worse when he has to confront a dark family secret. As shown in the trailer, I am expecting a lot of gore and horror. The good news is that yes, Jud will survive to tell the tale.
For those of you who might not remember, Jud’s warning involved a story about a local farmer burying his dead son in the pet sematary which then led to said son coming back as an evil zombie. The event ended with the townsfolk banding together to kill the farmer and the son.
With the burial ground having ties with Indigenous culture, let’s see how the prequel handles that aspect of the narrative.
Here’s the trailer!
Pet Sematary: Bloodlines has been directed by Lindsey Anderson Beer who co-wrote the script with Jeff Buhler. Buhler also wrote the screenplay for the 2019 Pet Sematary reboot, which the upcoming movie will serve as a prequel for.
The 2019 reboot was able to gross more than $113 million at the global box office against a reported production budget of approximately $20 million. So, it makes sense for the creative team to make another installment. However, the streaming exclusive release doesn’t make sense to me considering the reboot did so well at the box office.
Anyway, the cast of the prequel stars Jackson White, Forrest Goodluck, Jack Mulhern, Henry Thomas, Natalie Alyn Lind, Isabella Star LaBlanc, Samantha Mathis, David Duchovny, and freaking Pam Grier!
After having its world premiere at this year’s Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines will premiere on Friday, October 6, 2023, on the Paramount+ streaming service.
Are you looking forward to watching it?
